I know the atmosphere is supposed to be good, but how is the food and how are the prices (I'm on a budget)?

We always eat at Jungle Jim's when we're at WDW. It is a fun atmophere, food is decent and the prices are moderate. It is not cheap, but not terrible either. I would plan on at least $10-12 per person (no liquor).

We went there 2 trips ago which was 2 years ago and although the food was decent the place was SLIMY . It seemed like everything I touched was coated in some sort of funky greasy slime. Needless to say we won't be eating there again.

Slimy? Yuk! Is there anywhere good to eat with decent prices? Preferably close to DD. I cannot afford sit downs on property and I hate most of the counter food (which is overpriced anyway). I will not do McDonalds...so what am I left with? Someone on another board suggested Sweet Tomatoes and that sounds nice and I'm planning to do Unos one night, but there has to be someplace else.

There is a lot of places besides Jungle Jims in the Crossroads that isn't fast food.

There is Perkins, TGI Fridays, Red Lobster, Uno's (which you already mentioned), Pebbles, and a little down the road there is an Olive Garden. Diagonally across from Olive Garden is the Orlando Ale house.

I know that there are other places on Palm Parkway, but not sure what is there. Maybe someone else will know.

We ate there last year and thought the place could have been much cleaner. The food was adequate but we decided we'd rather try other places in the future.

We did try Bahama Breeze down the street and LOVED it!

How expensive is Bahama Breeze?

Another one to add to the list of close by restaraunts is Bennigans. I liked Uno's. I wanted to try Bahama Breeze, but we never made it there. They have a web site that has a menu on it. Try a search on yahoo or google.

We love Bahama Breeze, but plan on spending more here than at the Olive Garden. If you have a car, take a left as you leave WDW property via Hotel Plaza Blvd(going straight takes you into the Crossroads), and there are lots of chain restaurants. If you take a right as you leave WDW, and then a left under I-4, there is a Golden Corral near Bahama Breeze, and a Landry's Seafood(never tried this one).

Bahama Breeze is wonderful, but not all that cheap. Here's a great deal though. If you have a Discover Card, redeem your cashback bonus on the Red Lobster Gift Card ($20 for a $40 gift card.) These cards are also good at the Olive Garden (where we usually use ours) and Bahama Breeze (where we would use them ALL if we had one near us.) So, we will definitely eat at Bahama Breeze for half-price on our next trip down. I currently have 4 $40 gift cards. We put everything on the Discover and pay it off each month - even groceries now. I am racking up.

LKS-

What a fabulous idea! I've always just gotten the cash back from Discover, but this is a much better deal. I could probably eat at Red Lobster and Olive Garden on my next trip down to the WDW area and still have money left over on the card.

Thanks for the tip - I just redeemed $20 to get one of those cards!

Jungle Jim's is a huge college program hangout -- as far as I know, most people go there for drinks and karaoke and not the food.

A good place for food is Chevy's. It's in the same parking lot as Jungle Jims. It's fresh mex. It was good and reasonably priced.

There is also a Perkins on the same side of the street which is a great place for breakfast!

whatever you do, don't get the filet mignon at Jungle Jim's (small, pretty tasteless, $18 ?? I've had better at Ponderosa) stick to the burgers and other bar food.
