Any opinions on Capts Grille?

Um I have not eaten there but...I believe Kevin did a review of it, look for it on iTunes, if I remember he did like it! Just throwing this out there that it is in Yacht Club, we always stay at the boardwalk but since it is a DVC resort, well I have always felt that they do not skimp at there DVC resort restaurants at all. I would say check out Kevin's review though he says it as it is basically

Thanks for the suggestions. I do not know about iTunes. How can I access his review at this site? How do I get to the site? Thanks

We stayed at YC last month (our 3rd time there) and ate breakfast and lunch at Cap't Grill (as we usually do). It's a big, airy place and everything we've had there has been good; great lobster rolls at lunch, lovely breakfast buffet, etc. It doesn't get a lot of attention because it's not exceptional or "themed" particularly -- it is like a nice family restaurant that you might find locally.

So that's the bottom line -- food and service are fine, but it's not set apart by anything particularly Disney-ish.

Room service from the BC also mainly comes from the Captains Grille. I had room service several times and everything was excellent.

Captains Grill is one of those hidden gem types of places. It usually gets pretty good reviews and it's always easy to get an ADR here. Not to mention their menu is fairly large and has a good variety.

We ate there last Sept. and it was good. The atmosphere was relaxing and our server was very good. You won't be disappointed.

Kevin did a review of it last August (August 2008). You'll have to hear it for yourself, but he had an 'interesting' experience there.

My family of 6 ate there on our last trip...it was by far the worst meal of that trip. All 6 entrees were not particularly good...and the service was horrendous. It was bad enough where this place is permanently off the list.

OMG!!! This is my favorite restaurant review on the podcasts! Definitely listen to this one before you make your decision -- it's very informative and entertaining!;)

Look for it in the past podcasts here on the DIS.

We've had great breakfasts there, but never had dinner there.

We ate breakfast there on our honeymoon (when it was the Yacht Club Galley) and enjoyed it very much. It was one of only a few TS breakfasts we had that trip and since we were staying at the Yacht Club, it was an obvious choice.

This is one of our favorite places to eat at Disney. We normally go at least once if not twice while we are there. The steaks are wonderful and the bread is too die for. Also the last time we were there they got us the creme brulee from the Yachtsman. We have never had a problem with service either. Like a pp mention this a hidden gem of the parks...

If you have never been there, you should try it out and form your own opinion!

However, if you are going to decide where to eat based on the opinions of anonymous strangers on the internet, I would recommend this place. I tried it for the first time in 2006 and have been back a few times since. It is generally quiet, with solid food and good service. Not a "wow!" meal, but well worth a visit.

We went in Aug 2008 and actually declared it to be our worst meal ever on Disney. We found the food tasted horrible when we were there. 4 out of 4 meals were not enjoyed.. Pretty bad ratio..

EXACTLY what happened to us! Granted....could have been an off day. But all the meals were bad...and my group is not really picky.

I've never eaten at the Captain's Grille; however, I say go for it and keep your reservation.

Don't get me wrong, I always try to read reviews on restaurants before I go too, but since you will undoubtedly find people who hate and love each restaurant (just look at the posts in this thread to see that!), you should give it a try yourself.

We usually base our first visit on whether or not there is something on the menu for everyone in the family. More than likely, if we like the menu, we'll give it a shot.

I agree with you. We actually loved San Angel....MANY people despise it. You just never know....

We went last August and it was one of our best meals. We really enjoyed it. Just sent my parents there on Saturday night and they really liked it to.
