Any one on here know anything about guitars?

My DH is a guitar player and we have 3 acoustics, 15 electrics, 2 mandolins, a dobro, a banjo, 2 lap steels and a double neck pedal steel in the house. :scared1:

I had him answer a question similar to this around Christmas time and here's what I would caution you on: this is an extremely basic guitar. This will not be the guitar that you can play for 10 years. You need to play close attention to how high the action (distance between the strings and the fretboard) is. If the distance is too great it will be difficult to press the strings, make chords, etc. This will cause lots of finger pain and lead to frustration.

It would be in your best interest to visit a local music store and perhaps look into buying a good quality used guitar. Some local store can also do a payment plan. If you aren't sure if you'll really like playing a guitar you may also be able to rent one. If you already play and want a guitar you can have for a few years until you can afford a really nice one, I would steer you away from this guitar.

Last thing I would say is *Do Not* buy a guitar sight unseen. Make sure you take lots of time playing it and that it feels good to you. Being a woman you have smaller hands; some acoustics will feel too big for your hands. It may take trying several brands/models to find the right fit/feel.

If you want more specifics I can have DH chat with you anytime!

HTH! :wizard:

ETA: Yahama makes a wide range of guitar qualities. This is on the low end; they do make excellent high end guitars.

Ugh this is getting frustrating only way i have to get money is a gpt site where you only get 1-5 a day i'm about to get up until i can get a real job.

Maybe you could go to a guitar center and play one in person.

Hey Sierra,

I too am an avid guitar player (just over 10 years now) and have to agree with Mrs D on this one.

Best bet is to get yourself down to a local music store and try a few out.
If you're not confident doing so, ask one of the sales reps to demonstrate playing it for you (that's what I did when I bought my very first bass).

I love my Takamine electro-acoustic to bits and it took a while to find the one that was right for me (I tried about 8 different guitars of varying prices).
Price isn't always a great guide. For me, it's how the guitar feels in your hands. Some have a much bigger neck, which can make it difficult for smaller hands.

If you really like the one your friend has, then find out what the model number is and check out the prices (after all, if you really like it and happy with it, it might save a trip to the music store!)

Be warned.....you'll get hooked ;-)

Now if only the missus would let me crank up the Marshall 100 watt amp :goodvibes :scared1:

I have to agree with all thats been said. I'm actually in the process of selling my guitar, since it's not getting any attention. That and I've not been a keen player, I am a drummer first, bassist second...

You wouldn't by chance be interested in a set of Sabian pro sonix cymbals would you? I need to sell mine - they're collecting dust in the garage! :rotfl:

Thats the one i want to get its the same brand as my friends.
What do you guys think?

My oldest DS plays the guitar - electric and accoustic. He started out with a beginner guitar when he was in his teens and bought better one's when he got older. If you can try out this guitar at Guitar Center or if it is very similar to your friends - you should go for it. You will work your way up to a better guitar. My son taught himself and also bought and learned how to play the keyboards too! Good luck:thumbsup2

My DH owns that exact guitar. It was his starter guitar (he has others now). He says if it fits your hand (the fret board) it will be a good first for you. We love the guitar center, by the way!

Depends how much :rolleyes1 Although I'm severly lacking the funds, and now have to buy a new bike, as every time I fix something, something else breaks...

Can't stress the need to actually see and play the guitar before buying, particularly budget models. Neck size is important. String action is more important and can vary from guitar to guitar no matter the price range.

Frankly, my favorite guitar for bashing out a few chords around the house is a budget model I bought used for about $50. It just feels right.

OK Gav, inquiring minds want to know. What model Takamine and is the Marshall a combo or a stack.

My 100 watt amp is still at my father's house. Will be bringing it to our basement soon. Sometimes you just need to feel the noise.:scared1:

It's official, I now have a new hero.:worship:

A good beginner, and not too expensive guitar is a Seagull. I have one and I love it

Hey Greg!!!!! Long time no speak :thumbsup2

My Takamine is an EG560C. Here's a photo in the living room:

I also have this really rare Westone Thunder 1A Electric Guitar (Japanese). It was made in 1983 and they ceased production shortly after. This one's really nice because it's the only model in the series to feature the brass controls. They're losing the shine a bit now, but it's so great to play. I love it.

My main amp is a Marshall MG100DFX; with built in chorus, delay and flange effects. I use a Zoom GFX-5 with it. Bit old now, but serving me really well.

How about yourself?

Great to hear from you BTW. Hope you and Lois are doing well. Look forward to seeing you both in a few months time again!

Ha! I know what you mean. I'm planning to sell mine to help fund the Med cruise next month. I have:
10" Splash
14" Hi Hats
16" Crash
20" Ride

Will probably try for £150 first, down to £100 for the lot.
Do you think that's possible?
If I can't shift them at work, I'll venture into the world of Ebay...

Damn you sir, thats a good deal! But I can't afford it

My venture into ebay has gone well, my electric is selling for just under what I paid for it :yay:

As long as you list them well, and theres interest, things generally work out.

Also, Guitar Hero drums in the back of the first picture!
