or has anyone been to DL for NYE? Just wondering what goes on. We just booked - I know it will be crowded - but hope the extra access and fast passes will make up for it.
Thanks!

We were there for New Year's eve 2008-2009. It was very crowded but most people were waiting for fireworks in Mainstreet or other locations in the park and it wasn't too hard to get around. They have different stages set up around the parks with music / entertainment while waiting for midnight. There are also stations with hats and noise makers.

I think it is the best time to go on the attractions. Pirates of the Caribean and Haunted Mansion had very short lines and Toy Story Mania and Finding Nemo were only about a 20 minute wait. We rang in the New Year on the Nemo sub ride. They are open until at least 2AM which is great since you only have a short walk to your room at GC.

Ask the Guides about the passes. We didn't have any trouble going from CA to DL even though DL had reached capacity earlier in the day.

We had a great time!

Thanks so much! AFter I posted here I went to the DL forum and went into panic mode after reading someof the posts there. Nice to hear from someone who DID have a good time NYE!!

We were there for New Year's Eve last year. Just remember that certain features of the tour were closed and substitutions were made throughout the 5 days...some regular places on the ABD tour simply close over the Holidays... New Year's Eve was very crowded but worth the excitement!

We sent our 2 teen boys to California Adventures for all the DJ's and a teen/college aged crowd while we stayed in Disneyland with our then 10 year old.

I felt like on NYE we kind of had to pick which park we would be attending early since either one can close completely to guests. Since we were staying on site with ABD we didn't really worry about our 17 and 15 year olds in a different park. They met up with us then took off wandering, then met up at the hotel. We just texted each other and everyone received party hats and noise makers.

I would suggest that a day or 2 prior that you pick up some specific light up NYE pins since they were out once we saw what they looked like...none were left to buy anywhere on NYE day......

We would do the tour again although we missed Jim Henson's Studio, and Jimmy Kimmel due to holiday closures ( and our Med DCL was a great bargain this past May with kids sail free)

and depending where you are traveling from...pack clothing accordingly. Temperatures varied from the 80's to the 50's with rain, but much warmer from the 0 to 30 degress we traveled from.

One of the many reasons we booked this tour during NYE was to specifically experience the Holiday...where we live, there is nothing for kids to do on NYE

Our guides were terrific and we met very nice people...happy travels!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks! great info! so...what did you do instead of Jim Henson and Jimmy Kimmel??

We went to Prospect Studios where Grey's Anatomy and General Hospital are filmed. We were able to have a group picture taken on the stairs on the Grey's Anatomy set.

We still had a tour of Jimmy Kimmel Live studio just didn't get to see a live taping

Also, bring warm clothing hats and gloves. Even though it was in the 50's it felt quite cold at night and early in the morning.

I've spent the last three years at DL for New Year's and had fun all three years. Just go in expecting that it is busy and there will be a lot of people there and I think that you will be fine. Have fun on your trip!
