Any one ever taken a wagon?

I am working on planning our trip for 2007. I personally do not think that my son will be able to make it every day walking the entire time. Since my husband is concerned about money I am trying to think of tips to save. I know that little man will be to big for a stroller from home. So I was thinking, what about taking one of those little tykes plastic wagons? You can even get one with a draw under the seat for storage.

I guess what I am asking is - does any one know if WDW allows these in the park? Has anyone taken one? Is it worth it?

Thanks!

I thought that in the past WDW didn't allow wagons. I am not sure if that's still the case.

Wagons aren't allowed at WDW, but you might consider renting a stroller when you get there - I saw lots of what I would consider "older kids" using them, and it would certainly be helpful if you could save some energy for later in the day!

Definitely rent a stroller for that age. Even when they're "older", that is a lot of walking. The strollers cost about $8/day and you get a $1 (Disney dollar) back if you return it to the rental place.

A stroller can be a life saver, especially for older toddlers and young kids. I would definately recommend including one in the budget.
There are areas of the parks (especially Fantasyland in MK) that are very congested and a wagon would not be practical.

Happy Planning! :flower:

When our son was seven, eight, nine, and possibly even into ten my DH used to carry him around on his shoulders a lot at WDW...especially after Illuminations.

DS wasn't all that tall, and skinny as a rail, so it wasn't too difficult for DH...then he suddenly had a growth spurt--he's now 6'!

I dont think they allow wagons though I have seen numerous older kids in strollers. Our oldest DS will be 9.5 when we go on our next trip and I bet she will need a carry at some point, and she is already in 10-11 yr old clothes for her height. :earsgirl:

Thanks so much for all the great comments. See I never knew that wagons are not aloud. All the reading I have been doing and have never seen anything stating that.

My son will only be 4 when we go in 2007 but he is big for his age.

I think I will just add the extra cash into the budget! It is better then packing my own too!

Thanks to everyone! I can now mark that question off my list!

my ds will be 4 for our 2007 trip also. i plan to rent a double stroller for him. might not need one that big the entire time, but if he decides to nap, it will give him a little more room to stretch out (especially if he keeps growing at the rate he has been :rotfl2: ).

plus, if you decide to hop to another park the same day, you can get a stroller at the next park without paying...just show your receipt from earlier.

Why don't you look for an inexpensive wide bodied umbrella stroller. Take him with you and have him try it. I had a cheap $20 that I used to take when the youngest was about 3 or 4. There were times when the seven year old was too tired to walk back from Epcot to the Beach Club. I would put him on the bottom and he would hold the youngest. You would be surprised at what fits when you try. ;) That would be a lot cheaper than renting one and you would have it for those other places you have to walk.

I like your idea and might use it! My little man is 2 now and has very broad sholders and long legs. Poor kid! So I think that renting a stroller will just have to be added to the budget!
Thanks!

and if you know you're going to be renting for several days, you can get a multi-day discount ticket!

I know this is off topic, oogieboogie, but I've seen your sign off symbol quite a few times, and I can't figure out what it means. Maybe I'm overlooking something very obvious, but would appreciate an explanation. Thanks.

Last week we tried to take a wagon into MK one evening for our 2 girls, 4 and 2. When we got to the ticket taking center the CM informed me that wagons were a tripping hazard and not allowed in Disneyworld. She did say though that they would give us a complimentary double stroller and hold our wagon for the evening at the stroller rental center. Thought this was very nice, but I left my resort, boarded the boat, and made it through the security check before anyone even said a word about not allowing wagons in the park. Have fun on your trip and the double strollers at MK are very nice.

No BAD DANCING allowed! :rotfl:

You'll see this sign everywhere in WDW, on the trams, cars, any moving vehicle. It's the sign that you're not supposed to stand in a moving vehicle. I just think it's hilarious cause it looks like they're doing a weird dance! :rotfl:

Thanks, oogieboogie, for the explanation. I wonder if these signs are new since our last visit in December 2000, 'cause I don't remember ever seeing them before. I'm sure my 14-year-old granddaughter will get a kick out of your interpretation. She has already made up her own for signs we see on the highway - like "trucks driving on a wedge of cheese" (used to warn of a steep grade or something like that). I can't remember the rest of them. I'll have to ask her.

My son was 4 on our last trip in May 2004. He was 43" tall and we used a cheap umbrella stroller.

The rental strollers at WDW look big. If you have the free vacation planning video of this year, there is a segment where the "recreation and relax expert" (Dave, I think?) talks to a kid in stroller and then physically gets into the stroller with the kid a little later.

Even if you are not going to WDW this year, get the video. I enjoyed watching it and my 5 year old enjoys playing the little trivia game. You can get the free DVD or VHS tape on www.disneyworld.com
