Any OKW tips or secrets?

I am a little apprehensive although still excited about our upcoming visit. Any little tidbits you can share about OKW will be very appreciated.

we always request near the hospitalityhouse as we do not have a car. have found that is usually the first or last bus stop. OKW is a huge resort and riding in that bus is not a fun thing! olivia's is very good for breakfast. the boat to DTD is a nice ride. hope this helps!

I agree with the advice that if you are not going to have a car at OKW, then request a villa near the HH. OKW is by far one of Disney's largest and most spread out resorts. If you are going to use the resort restaurant, main pool, boat marina to DTD, Gurgling Suitcase, community hall, front desk w/guest services, etc., many of the buildings at OKW are located quite a distance away from the main hub where these things are housed. Being located in these buildings without a car will require either a lengthly walk or hopping on an internal bus.
Also only 3-4 buildings at OKW have an elevator so if you do not want to walk up possibly 2 flights of steps everytime you leave/return to your room, request a building with an elevator. All the elevator buildings are located near the HH so this gives these buildings an added amenity.
We find Olivia's to have reasonably priced good food in a uncrowded atmosphere. We will often have lunch at Olivia's and then take the boat to DTD for an afternoon of shopping.

Next summer there will be 8 of us ( family get together) that will be staying in a 2bdrm villa at OKW. We understood the rooms to be very spacious and accommodating. While at WDW last summer my sister and I visited the different resorts and found all of them to be beautiful. Since our 84 year old mother will be with us, we thought OKW would be the best choice.
You only have 19 days left! I'm excited for you. Relax and enjoy.

You will LOVE OKW... we haven't had much luck getting rooms near the HH even when we requested them far in advance... now I always request a villa near Peninsula Rd bus stop... they are still an easy walk to the HH and have nice views (and we always seem to get our request...I guess a lot of people request near the HH and not all of those requests can be granted)

Oh, I am sure we will love it! Does anyone know if they have the boat rental package there? I've read other resorts rent the boats for your length of stay, can this be done there?

The parks buses stop at Hospitality House last (route is Pensinsular Road, South Point, Turtle Pond, Millers Road, HH). The DTD bus stops at the HH first and last since it is considered the Internal Bus. It is an easy walk from anywhere to the HH and Community Hall. You can also take a boat to DTD.

Olivia's has very good food most of the time - excellent breakfast. If you are staying on points, you will only get Towels and Trash on the fourth day unless you are staying 8 days or more. Then you get a full cleaning on day four, T&T on day eight. You will have a washer and dryer in your room unless you are staying in a studio-then you have access to a washer and dryer near the pools.

If you want to rent a surrey bike, do it at OKW since the ground is level and much easier to pedal around. You can go around the entire resort. They also rent bikes.

We just returned from a 6 day stay at OKW. We had a studio and a 2BR. Part of the time there was 7 of us, part of the time 11. The boat to DTD only holds 12 people. It runs every 20 minutes until 9:40 or 10??? We had originally requested near HH, but were placed on Old Turtle Pond RD, first floor, rooms 3519 & 3513. Absolutley perfect. we were just steps away from the bus stop. I was told by some fellows travelers that South Point is best because you can see the bus coming, then have 2 minutes until it actually picks you up.

We ate at Olivia's for breakfast. My sister in law at first thought they were a little high, she said something like "isn't there a McDonald's around here?", but then the food came. She said it was the best meal we had all week, and well worth the price. It ran about $7 each for breakfast, I think. Not really bad at all. And it was really good, I had French Toast with pineapple jam, the breakfast potatoes were great. We also ate at "Good's Food to Go". Not bad. We didn't use the pool at all, spent all our time in the parks, so proximity to the pools didn't concern us. HH was either the first or last stop each trip.

I wish we were still there. My dad loved it so much there, he has now been spoiled for anywhere else. We have ressies for Pop Century for DH, myself and Dad in April (I know we are crazy to go Easter Week, but I HAVE TO see DS perform at EPCOT), but he wants us to change to OKW or one of the other Home Away From Home Resorts.

You will love it. I only wish we would have taken more time to enjoy the whirlpool tub and our rooms.

We have been members since 1997. Every year we request near the Hospitality House and have received our request. This past summer was the first time we were given a room elsewhere. We then stated that we requested a room near the hospitality House and they changed us immediately. So don't give up.

We like the free movie rentals that are available to DVC members at Hank's. Nice to have something ready if it is raining and don't go out.
