Any OKW advice

My family and I are fairly new to the DVC family. We own at SSR and have stayed there once, but wanted to try some other DVC resorts. We were guided on which building to request in order to be close to Downtown Disney which was helpful and warned about a few things to watch out for during check in.

Any tips or advice that we should take into consideration for OKW? We are going down with a diverse group, young kids up to Grand Parents.

The rooms that face the main road can have a lot of noise from buses, and the DTD buses run pretty late.

It depends on what you are looking for in your stay. If you wish to be near Hospitality House (check-in area), that will be a separate booking category starting next year (same # of points as the rest of OKW) similar to Boardwalk View at BWV.

Personally, I prefer the more outlying areas of the resort, but we usually have a car. Although any bus will take you to the Hospitality House.

As far as views, there are woods, golf and water views. All are nice, none are "outstanding", but some are nicer than others. One room at OKW is pretty much like ay other. With young children, be sure to request that you do NOT get a handicap room (unless you need it for other reasons) especially for 1 bedroom and larger units, as they can easily reach the stove controls in the lower counter Handicap units.

Also, only three buildings have elevators 62, 63 & 64 if the grandparents are at an age where stairs will be a problem. If they can climb stairs, the stairs at OKW are pretty gentle, 1/2 flight, a landing, and another 1/2 flight.

My home resort is also SSR but we are planning on staying at OKW again. The units are more spacious even though they are a little older. The space is important to us as we usually travel with grandparents, parents and kids in the same unit. OKW also seems to be more relaxed and quiter that some of the other reorts we have visited. Everyone has a personal preference but so far our favorite resort is OKW. ps-It is easier to get a reservation at OKW since it is one of the older resorts. Have a great trip!! Can't wait fop my next magical adventure.:cheer2:

This is not true for ALL handicapped units. I am sitting in one right now. (Yes, I got the handicapped room and did not run screaming to the front desk as most DISers do. It is not in any way "Substandard" As a matter fo fact it has a very nice water and golf view and it has a tub! :rotfl2: ) My room has a standard kitchen set up. The only difference is the roll in shower.

Thank you for the feed back! We are looking for a first floor room or a building with an elevator. My MiL is going to have a scooter, which will be a first for us.

13 days and counting!

You need to request that now. We have had trips where we needed a scooter too, and they were very good about accommodating us with a 1st floor room. That being said, I much prefer the upper floors because of the better views and lack of people above you.
