Any non-US. If so I have some questions for you:

1) How did/do you deal with the exchange rate?

2) Do you find that the mtce. costs when converted to CAS$/AUD$ get a little high per year?

3) Were you able (if you chose to do so) to get financing from Disney as a non-US resident?

4) Is it possible to pay part of or all of the DVC intial purchase with a credit card (to get points etc.)?

5) Were you concerned with the law of the contract being outside of Canada/or your home domicile?

6) Are you thinking at all (maybe I am planning too far forward) of when it might be difficult/too expensive to get health insurance while travelling in the States?

Thanks
Jason

I'm not one but I wanted to let you know you should be hearing from some quite soon. ;) There are quite a few regular visitors to these boards who come from around the world.

We just have finished the purchase of our first points in DVC and are Canadian residents
Glad to hear there are other Canadians on the Board
we are in Toronto...

Re: your questions:
1) Just accepted that day's rate, (money orders)
2) haven't noticed it yet...
3) didn't get financing, purchased outright
(but when we were with our CM we were told no problems for foreign financing)
4) no (you are buying real estate and therefore not possible)
5) no, U.S. laws are as strong and dependable as Canadian...
6) not a concern we have private coverage...

Hi,
from the Niagara region!
1)because it fluctuates so much it really is a day to day thing.
2)I think convert it is about $73-$75 per month
3)we bought our original points outright and we did finance an add on this year through Disney
4)we bought outright on our credit card and just paid it off when we got home(We bought while we were in Disney)
5)no
6)covered privately

Jaysue, are you familiar with Adena Springs Farm?

There are a few of us from the UK who post here (as well as on the UK DVC board).

In answer to your questions-

1) How did/do you deal with the exchange rate? We take it as it comes - we haven't found any alternative!

2) Do you find that the mtce. costs when converted to CAS$/AUD$ get a little high per year? This year our actual cost of annual dues was less than last year because of the fluctuation in exchange rates.

3) Were you able (if you chose to do so) to get financing from Disney as a non-US resident? Not applicable.

4) Is it possible to pay part of or all of the DVC intial purchase with a credit card (to get points etc.)? We used a VISA card for payment in two installments (so as not to go over our credit limit). We bought direct from Disney, but I understand this isn't always possible with a resale.

5) Were you concerned with the law of the contract being outside of Canada/or your home domicile? Yes, that's why we chose to deal with Disney rather than a resale - it felt 'safer' for us, although I had no reason to doubt any resale transaction.

6) Are you thinking at all (maybe I am planning too far forward) of when it might be difficult/too expensive to get health insurance while travelling in the States? Haven't considered that one!.

Again I am a DVC owner from the UK.
1) Regarding the exchange rate. Again there really is no alternative.
2 )Same here the mtns costs this year were a lot lower due to the strong pound
3) I obtained my finance through Disney which I have just paid off in full saving interest payments
4) Yes this is possible
5) Not really however we did buy directly through Disney. Which is a safe bet
6) Don't really consider that at present being still in my early 40's

I just purchased at BCV mainly because the CAD$ had recently gotten stronger. I was looking for an excuse to buy something American which I know I will want to use going forward. I hope I am wrong and have ended up buying US$ at a still-inflated level, but if so then I can watch the maintenance and all other trip cost go down in CAD$ terms. If I am right, however, and we go back to the 1.6000 level I will be loving my point purchase. I would be careful buying DVC points on a credit card, as the exchange rate can be highway robbery.

Hi, I'm dvc owner from Belgium.
1)we take it as it come.

2) the euro being stronger, our dues went down this year.

3)we made a 110 points add-on at BWV and financed 50% through Disney.

4)we paid our down payment for the add-on with our mastercard, so yes.

5)no

6)didn't thought about that yet

Hi another U.K. DVC owner here.

1. We only bought at the end of last year and we were able to buy more points because the pound was stronger than when we first looked into buying.

2. Our dues went down this year because of the strong pound.

3. Disney offered us financing but we got a lower interest rate from our bank .

4. We could have used our VISA card for the purchase with Disney but as we eventually bought resale this wasn't an option.

5. No, but we checked the resale agent before we bought through her.

6. Hadn't thought about that but if it happens I'm sure my DS will gladly use my DVC points for me ;) or I could use them closer to home (Disneyland Paris) or exchange through II.
