I was just wondering if anyone heard of anything they may be doing to celebrate their 40th anniversary in October. I am going for the anniversary because I happen to turn 40 on the same day so of course I hope they make a big deal of it but I haven't heard of anything.

Wait until the D23 Expo in August. If anything is announced, it will likely be done then.

You already have the merch and you'll most likely see the following!

A crappy street party and a whole lit of tumbleweeds.

Seriously though...

I'd expect a new fireworks show to replace Wished and announcing the return if a refurbished Spectro!

What they should announce.

Soarin Over the World.
JII4
MI Coaster
Yeti being fixed

I'd also build an exhibit in the unused Premiere Theater in DHS or in DTD showcasing the history of WDW. Comelet with show pieces from old attractions ect..

Are you saying it is probabable they will announce this?

or you think they will announce some other crap and this is what they should announce instead?

Is that a serious question?

They will announce nothing....just more fantasyland, fantasyland, fantasyland dead horse beating...

On another note: I do believe we've seen the last of the anniversary promotions as we knew it from the pink castle days.

If i were a PR hound...and i'm just guessing here...then the anniversary and birthday ideas are too limited in scope for what they want to do going forward. They don't want their "celebrations" tied to a calendar year period because they want the flexibility to make them as long as possible and schlep more merchandise without changing logos too often (tough to reset those screen printing and stitching machines...especially if you can't speak mandarin and don't understand the labels printed on them:banana:)

It pretty clear that with the "magical gatherings", "Year of a million dreams", "what will you celebrate?" things that have rolled through in the last ten years that we are going to get repeats of the same ideas over and over again - using disney's pedantic arsenal of buzz words to attempt and get the same thing: more people coming back more with more money for stuff.

I thought "Million Dreams" was a terrific concept even though I never "won" anything. It was great to see it happening, and it probably cost the company very little.

Don't get me wrong, I know there wasn't a whole lot to it once you got beneath the surface... but they did a good job with making it feel like something was going on.

Now, it's just a matter of changing the wording on the signs.

I have spoken to an entertainment manager that said a new entrance show is being done for the week of the anniversary. Nothing more than the D23 info we will get in August.

Sadly, managment has confirmed no return for spectro... and if a firework show would be replacing wishes it would have taken place by now. SOTW is long overdue. Maybe the Yeti will just be taken out and placed next to the old Countdown to Extinction dino that has been hanging out behind MK for years....

I hope they give everybody a free refill soda mug with a happy 40th logo that would be good for life. That would make some Disboards posters heads spin faster then Linda Blairs' head in the Exorcist.

This is not true MSEP will go back to DCA at the latest next summer. Spectro will then return.
