Any news on Rule changes Buying Direct vs Resale?

I continue to cross my fingers that whatever they do isn't done retroactively. I'd like to hope that the one add-on contract we purchased resale will be grandfathered to work the same as our main contract.

EDIT: I missed something VERY important and I see that now. I was talking in generalizations and I now see that the thread title was very specific with reference to resales. My apologies. I can see now how my statement would have been taken as a literal against the thread title. My bad and my apologies. Again, I was talking in generalizations with reference to something changing and nothing specific which is what I remember you guys saying. The thread was very general yet the title was very specific. I guess everybody caught that but me. I usually don't miss things like that but I certainly did this time for sure.

Ah don't worry about it. It happens on message boards from time to time.

or what happens to an original small 'starter' resale contract that was added onto (via cash purchases, dribs & drabs over the years) directly thru DVC:confused3not to mention subsequent addons at different resorts using same membership contract

imo, it's not fair to classify a membership in whole as a resale if it merely constitutes a small portion of the current overall point holding that were bought directly thru DVC.

I guess it could be argued I 'cheated' DVC out of interest as no financing was involved, however; i'm sure many members have paid cash outright even for large contracts.

I think there's little risk of having a line drawn between existing resale and retail points. I think there's a slightly higher chance of everyone being in the same situation and all existing owners having to ante up. Most likely is that IF anything happens, it will only affect those resale buyers going forward.

As a potential future customer, this is all very interesting to me. I'm in no rush to buy, so I'll just sit back and take this all in...

Dean you are correct it is a regulatory issue (restriction) not a legal or contractual issue.

Again, those Fl Statues only apply to the hard assets of the home resort in terms of preventing significant changes. The Statues do not apply in any way to perks and have little to say exchanges and they don't apply in this regard to other club options. A number of FL bases timeshares have made far more sweeping changes than we're discussing without any issues related to such regulations.

I am guessing that any points purchased directly from Disney, even if the original contract was resale would not have the same restrictions as the resale points, and that is assuming that if changes were ever made, that current owners who have resale points in their memberships were included in changes.

it sounds reasonable to me, but who knows with all the 'refining' last few years.:confused3
