Hello all, just wondered if anyone knows what's happening with Goodings supermarket since a few weeks ago Orlando Sentinel printed that the company had filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy!
Is the store still open or likely to be closed in the near future??
It's our favourite place to shop when we are in Florida and would be very shocked to find it no longer available to visitors to WDW and LBV area. It's always been so busy when we've been before and they have always had such a good range of products, I really hope it can be rescued. Please update us on their current status. Many thanks :confused3

Chapter 11 is (in simple terms) a means of keeping a company trading whilst it (hopefully) reorganises to avoid bankruptcy, Whilst stores can close as a part of the reorganisation, its doesn't necessarily mean wholesale closures.

That said, IMHO, Goodings was always a bit expensive?

I think the company filed for chapter 11 about 12 months ago and that the recent news was that it has emerged from those proceedings.

Oh dear, I wonder what action the owners are taking now?? The cost of goods was always countered for us by the location being so close to our hotel just a 10 minute walk away. We don't drive at all so if we went anywhere else we would need a taxi there and back which soon adds to the cost. Don't get me wrong we have tried other stores in the past, Publix next door to Dolly's and Walgreens both good stores but you need transport to get to them. :listen: :listen: :listen:

Publix generally is more popular, better value for money whilst having the quality/variety too.

Gooding's website is still active (may mean little) , perhaps you could contact them through that?

I wasn't impressed with Goodings or the area it was in. It seemed a bit dirty and run down.

The new one in Kissimmee on the 192 is newer and a lot nicer.

The Celebration location? Sadly, I think that one has closed. Just the Crossroads and I-Drive stores remain.

Really? It was fairly new or certainly a lot newer than the Crossroads one.

Yes, the Celebration Goodings store didn't last long - there was some sort of legal issue with the owners and Goodings moved out (and sued them). The I-Drive and Crossroads locations are the only ones remaining at the moment.

We were in the Crossroads store last week and it seemed to be working nomally, albeit it was rather quiet. There is no immediate word of anything happeneing to close either store. However, there is also a Winn-Dixie supermarket just north of the Crossroads location, about 200m north of the junction with Palm Parkway on the right, and still reasonably walkable. It is not quite the same quality as Goodings or Publix (the latter of which is our preference), but it is a big store with most of the usual commodities.

That's a shame as it was quite a nice little shopping complex there, let's hope something decent replaces it - there are parts along the 192 that have been a bit run-down for some time now (like the 'wild bills' shopping area) so it was refreshing to see something new being added.

Thanks for posting Simon , it's good to know about Winn-Dixie I don't think it was there on our trip last year there must have been a lot of construction work after our trip. It's worth a visit and we'll give it a go next summer, we can only try it and see. :thumbsup2 Will keep an eye on the Goodings website too. Many thanks
