Any New Englanders float away yet?

We had some pretty fierce thunderstorms here in southern NH last night. When I woke up at 3 this morning I got up to open my window and saw yellow lights revolving around the tree outside my window. Looked up the road and saw the yellow revolving lights and spotlight on heavy equipment that have become very familiar since the floods a few weeks ago. I didn't think it was too big a deal, until they started cleaning out the ditch in front of my house. They were there long enough so that my mom and stepdad finally went outside to see what was going on. Turned out everything had gotten really backed up with all the rain and we'd lost a big chunk of road (6 feet deep!) just up the street from us. My road is closed this morning to all through traffic. Pretty much all I've seen is trucks full of dirt and gravel going by the house this morning. There is one other way off my road, but you end up driving 5 miles out of the way. The busses can't even get through so my mom had to drive my sister to school and will have to pick her up today. Mom stayed home because we were all up from about 3-4 while they were dumping gravel and clearing stuff out. With all the rain coming, my dad (a selectman in town) said he doesn't know when the damaged end of the road will reopen. I guess the base of the road at that end (a bit further down from where the road is gone) is under water. We've had a bit of water in the basement, and our pool would have overflowed this morning if my stepdad hadn't spent 25 minutes backwashing it to drain water out
When is this rain going to end????? This is insane!
Anyone else wake up to a bit more water than expected?

I live in Maine, but my small town has not had the problems like yours. Sorry to hear of all your troubles. Now I feel guilty about complaining about the wet weather. My water problems are nothing compared to others. Good luck and hopefully there is a long stretch of sun in New Englands near future.

Nothing like that down my way, Cape Cod...sorry to hear of you trouble though. I know we're supposed to get rain this weekend, but not sure how much.

Those were quite the interesting storms. I was working at the airport in Manchester last night and my 5:10 departure to NY's LGA was delayed until 8:30. There were storms everywhere so LGA was groundstopped. It finally got lifted and then they closed the ramp at MHT because of the lightening. I dont know what time our last PHL flight finally left. I went home finally at 11:15 and it was still sitting on the gate waiting for fuel as they wont fuel during a thunderstorm. There were people camped out all over the airport as all of Southwests flights had the same problem.
I have a 40 minute commute from work and I had to pull over on 93 because the rain was coming down so hard you couldnt see more than a couple of feet in front of you.
I hope tonight is a bit better.

Well, I guess for once, us mountain folk are safe up here in the Mountains. Granted we are actually in Mount Washington valley, bu we were spared from all the horrible flooding! Good luck to all of you in the Southern Part of the state. We usually get the huge snowfalls and brutally cold weatherm but for some reason we were spared this time. Maybe mother nature figured we had a horrible enough winter with no snow for skiing. I know town was busy Memorial Day weekend, due to all the flooding down south, we were sent all the beach vacationers last weekend!!?? The Circle of life, tourism or whatever its called... With the construction on the Strip this summer, we have to take the busines while we can get it! Good luck!
