Any negatives on putting child in another family member’s room?

I’m hoping someone can help me! We will be booking another cruise this summer, and this time it will be with extended family members. My family of five (3 kids 12 and under) are silver. My sister’s family is also Silver. This will be my parents’ first sailing. I’m considering placing one of my children in my parents’ cabin, so we can all book at the same time. We would like all three cabins together, so we could take out the verandah dividers.

My child will still stay with us in our cabin. I’ll still be the one checking him in and out of the kids clubs, and I think we are doing most excursions together, there is no guarantee that we will get off the ship at the same.
Can you all give me all the cons of going this route? How big of a pain is it to do it this way, and is it worth it?

I haven't done this before, however I do know that your parents will have to sign a paper giving you permission to take your child off the ship since he/she is signed to their room. That child will also go with them to the muster drill, that shouldn't be that big of a deal, since your rooms will all be together, you will probably all have the same muster location. I just know about these 2 things from reading this board, neither seems like it would be that difficult. I know when we registered our dd for the kid's club, we had to list everyone who could check them in/out. Not sure if you'd be able to do this when you do your online check in or if your parents would have to do it, again shouldn't be that difficult for them to do.

Only negatives I can come up with -
- your child must attend the muster drill for the room he/she is registered in.
- an adult in the room where your child is registered must fill out a form for you to take your child off the ship.
- you must make sure any adults in rooms other than the one your child is registered in are also on the OK list for taking your child out of the kid's programming area. It's not automatic that "it's my child, I can take him/her out".
- be sure your room can hold another person. That is, a 5th person does not have a bed in a 4 person room.
- your child's gratuities will be charged to the room he/she is registered in.

I would put the 12 year old in your parents' room. While that child can still sleep in your room, you will have to get an extra key for that child to use to open doors. Your parents will then have to provide authorization that your child can be taken off the ship by you and you will have to make sure your child's purchases, should you give him/her purchasing authority are directed to your account, not your parents'.

Your child will have to go to the muster station with your parents. If your rooms are in the same vicinity, this shouldn't be a problem, but there is the potential that you may be at different muster stations. Should an evacuation event happen, your child has to know to go with your grandparents to be evacuated. For this reason, I suggested the 12 year old. It's extremely unlikely anything could happen, but a 12 year old is better equipped to understand going with grandma and grandpa than a 6 year old, for example.

Oh, you might ask at guest services to have the gratuities for your child moved from your parents' room to yours.

Other than that, really, it doesn't matter where your child sleeps.

Probably, but not necessarily. Depends on which rooms they select. Room next door to each other can have different muster stations.

Do you know if the muster locations would be right next to each other or not? I've never done anything like this, so I don't know, but I would guess that they would be. I guess one room could go to an inside muster location, and it could be possible that another room could have a muster location somewhere else though. We usually stay on deck 2, so we're usually mustering outside on a deck. We've only been in a club once, that was nice.

Thank you all for your replies!

Two more follow ups,
if something happens medically, and my parents can’t go, how easy is it to move a child back into another cabin? I understand body count and muster stations, so if we are in different muster stations, and ours is filled body wise, could I not add another member to my cabin even though it sleeps five?

Since my family is returning on a placeholder, the child who is moved to my parents’ cabin would not get the discounted price, I’m assuming? In that case, I could just move someone from my sisters’ family instead of mine?

There a two threads here - one for Dream/Fantasy muster stations and one for Magic/Wonder muster stations.

We were on one cruise (2 rooms) our room went to the WDT for muster and the other was on deck. Both rooms on deck 2 - Wonder, next door to each other.

Correct, if your room sleeps 5, and you have 4, but the muster station is filled, you cannot put another person in your room.

Sounds like a better option - placeholder/discount-wise to move one of your sister's kids. The placeholder/discount prices are attached to the room, not the person.

This is super helpful!!! Thank you!!! And I had no idea there were indoor muster stations! It sounds much better than our freezing 30 min wait on a windy deck because a family thought the muster drill was optional.

Personally, I wouldn't pick one room over another just based on the muster location for that room. But I guess others do.

Hmmmm.... can you move people in an existing reservation? I have 2 kids (silver) and my parents are newbies. Will DCL move one now? or is it too late?

When is your cruise? You can move people pretty much anytime, unless the room can't accommodate another person, or the muster station for that room is full.

August. Silver check in is end of next month. Our rooms are beside each other.
