I have a National reservaton through Delta for our spring break trip. :cool1:
I want to join Emerald Isle to get free Additional drivers. :teacher:
The thing I don't like about the Emerald membership is you have to give them your credit card number.
Has anybody been charged for a dropped rental, bad contract, changed hours or any other problem and regret with their Emerald Isle membership? :confused3
Thanks,
Good Luck All,
Joe

You give them your credit card number so they have some form of surety (or at least tracking you, or getting their money back) if you drive off with the car. It speeds things up. Without a credit card - i.e. with a debit card - you would NEED to stop at the counter to prove that you intend to return to your starting point via some form of transportation other than their car, and that you're not actually a local resident planning to keep the car indefinitely.

Emerald Aisle is the best thing since sliced bread. Better even. Don't sweat the credit card, it's not an issue.

I've been an Emerald Club member for over 10 years, never had a problem.

Regarding additional drivers - it's just your spouse/domestic partner or business associate.

Yep and they have to be listed at the same physical address as the Emerald Club member.

OP, they need your CC so they can bill you. It is such an easy, simple process. You skip the counter, so they need that information on file. When you return the car, you simply get a return receipt and head for the terminal. It is super simple, but they need a way to charge you. Now, if you plan on making multiple reservations and no showing, then they could essentially charge you since they have your info, but since there are no cancellation fees, you are fine as long as you cancel.

Just wanted to add that you CAN join the Emerald Club after making a reservation. I reserved through Orbitz, then joined online. Then I just called the reservation # and they added me as Emerald Aisle and gave me the 10% off for being a member.

You can also add coupons to an existing reservation, I just did it yesterday to get another $40 off via an email coupon.

I've only rented from National once before, but compared to every other car rental company, it is so much easier. We rented a midsize in Vegas and ended up with a minivan. No wait at the counter, and drop off was super fast. They had our reciept printed before we had our luggage unloaded.

We love National/Emerald club, been a memeber for 5 years and many car
rentals for work and pleasure and never ever had a problem. It so easy !!!

Never any issues here. Whenever you rent a car they are going to want a credit card. As a side note last trip I pulled a Challenger off the emerald aisle.
