Having worked at a movie theater, it's pretty impossible to get that taste without a popcorn maker.
Disney uses Pop Secret as their sponsor. Pretty much, the popcorn is pretty insignificant. You're gonna wanna buy regular popcorn kernels and pop it in a machine or stove top.
Here's where it gets very complicated and where the machine comes in handy: you don't put butter on it. Most places, probably Disney included, uses an oil. We used to use coconut oil. I'm sure you can purchase popcorn oil on
Amazon - it's a combination of canola and coconut oil.
So here's the thing: popcorn machines rotate the kernels as they cook, making sure to evenly distribute the "butter" across all the popcorn. You
can do it stove top, but you'll need to constantly shake the pan to avoid it burning and cover it all. They do serve a popcorn kettle which rotates as it cooks. Up to you, really. But don't bother air popping then apply the butter—it'll result in soggy popcorn.
Here's the "recipe" we'd use for the popcorn:
- About 10 cups popcorn kernels
- Popcorn oil
- 5 Tbsp Flavacol popcorn flavoring
If you take anything away from this: Don't use butter, use popcorn oil; You'll need popcorn flavoring (the orange stuff at the theaters) Also.. being in Disney helps
