I am new to the UK and have a year one teaching job starting in September. But even after teaching in Canada, Australia and the U.S. I'm feeling overwhelmed by the system. It feels like there is very little teaching freedom and the whole Ofsted thing seems so draconian... I would love to chat to someone who knows more about things and how they work.

I'm not a teacher, but I know it is a very strict system. Ofsted are really on the ball now, and are often writing up schools who under perform.

The curriculum is also tight, the amount of exams at GCSE and A Level means almost all they can learn is how to pass the exam

I'm not a London teacher but I am a teacher in the UK. You are right there is very little freedom here compared to the countries you are listing. Ofsted expect certain things to be demonstrated in all lessons!
