...I didn't know the vulture was stolen. That kind of thing makes me sad.

The vulture was not stolen, but removed to prevent theft or damage. Guests were caught trying to steal feathers from it.

...I'd love to have something from the auction as a memento, but that isn't likely to happen.

The large decorative charger plates stopped being used several months ago due to thefts.
It seems like you are not alone, many people want mementos...

Wow! It's always a shock to realize what lengths people will go to. I have many lovely mementos from Club 33 but they were all paid for by me or gifts from friends. I can't imagine swiping the dishes or anything else! I did ask once if I could have a copy of the menu and they graciously complied. They brought it to me neatly rolled up like a scroll and tied with a ribbon! My favorite memento was when I got to have lunch with Bob Gurr in the Trophy Room and he signed my magazine that featured him. I also got a cute monorail pin.

My apologies, I worded that poorly. The vulture was not stolen, it was removed before it could be stolen. Lillian's butterflies were stolen (but caught and returned is what I was told.) Many other items were taken. Things like decorative pieces on the staircase. Chargers were walking away so fast, they stopped setting the table with them.

To Gisele, it happened several times when I was exiting the club. People would grab the door and try coming in. One case when I wasn't there was a young man entered, refused to leave and assaulted the receptionist.

Malcon10t, is this just a temporary move during the refurbishment? I hope the Chef and Manager will be back after the reno is completed.

The manager is changing venues, so we can visit at his new location. (Where is only rumor at this point.) It is better for him and his family, so good for him!

Chef is being moved as a "promotion", but it is a Disney move, and not one most members are happy about. Chef Sutton will be taking over the club. This will put him over Napa, Carthay, and teh Club. Personally, this is spreading him too thin. As it is, people at Napa complain when he isn't there and state the quality goes down hill on days he is missing. He hasn't been at Carthay for a while, and several friends have stopped eating there due to quality issues. It will be interesting to see how Sutton handles taking over the club. Members are used to seeing "their chef", making odd requests, and getting interesting items. This was a birthday cake Chef made this weekend.

OMG!!! What a gorgeous cake!! I've never seen anything like that when I've been there. How fabulous!

Chef has been very good about accommodating us and making special surprises. I'm sorry he will no longer be there. I can't imagine that makes any kind of sense other than to bean counters.

There might be several factors creating (or increasing) the thefts at Club 33. The logo is changing, so existing logo items will be more collectable. Once it was announced old items would auctioned, some people might think items are no longer needed and "fair game" to take home

While I don't know if Chef Sutton was "missing", I can certainly say my last meal at Napa Rose was a "down hill day"

If my meal at Carthay in May was any indication, the food at C33 will go from being perfectly cooked and utterly delicious to poorly cooked, served cold and overall lackluster. I sincerely hope I am wrong.

It is official, the club is closed. Friends who went to the "Going away party" said it was great. Waiting to find out information.

It was very nice. The management staff was there to chat and answer questions. There were passed hors d'oeuvres, and complimentary punch and champagne. The Merchandise Cabinet was empty, but they did have a harpsichord player, which I have never seen/heard and it was wonderful.

They also had the concept art and sketches for the Salon Noveau and Le Grand Salon. There was also a guest book for members to sign. It was a great event. Very excited to see what's next when The Club reopens in July.

Friends said they had an update Mar 8th. Chef Sutton gave an update on the food, new drinks were explained, and new concept drawings of the formal dining room. (And the new logo was shown, and was met with deafening silence...) Otherwise, it was pretty much the same information previously provided. More of the update was spent showing the BTMRR updates and history than club info they said.
