Has anyone ever heard of a hijacked e-mail system? DH and I own a small business with a dozen employees. We get our e-mail through our corporate server. A spammer has hijacked our e-mail and is using it as a spam relay. For example, I had receiving about 30 junk e-mails a day, then a couple of months ago, the average number jumped to 150 per day. We hired a new IT firm to handle our e-mail, hoping to solve this issue (they told us that we had been an open relay). We thought the issue had been resolved but suddenly today, it went crazy. We were deluged with 100,000 junk e-mails per hour.
Apparently, our system is relaying all of this junk to our clients, contacts, friends, etc.
Our IT firm shut down e-mail system. Has anyone ever heard of an e-mail system being hijacked by spammers? Any suggestions to get out of this nightmare? Our IT guys suggested that we change our e-mail addresses. DH is reluctant to do that as our clients and other contacts have known our e-mail addresses for 8 years but we don't know a better solution. Help!
