Any issues with lanyards w/pins in airport security?

We have never had a problem. With the cost of pins so high i have my son carry them in his carry on. He usually has a 100 or so he brings for trading and comes home with tons that he traded and a lot that he buys. Never an issue.

We did have a problem once coming through security. I guess my DS's pins were bunched up in his carry on and they could not figure out what dangerous weapon the then 7-year-old child was trying to smuggle through! Very funny watching them trying to figure it out - then we realized what was happening and told them. They were not confiscated, just caused some issues. I would maybe mention that he has pins in there, so they know what they're looking at :thumbsup2

Keep the pins in a separate container that is either marked or clearly shows that they are nothing but pins. Then they have no excuse to hold you up.

During our last trip they hand-inspected my carry on in Frankfurt airport (we are coming in from Germany) because they couldn't place the mass amount of metal I was carrying. ;)

On our way back home from LAX my carry on bag was stopped again and I was asked to open it. The first officer seemed a bit confused, but this colleague saw Tink on my pin bag, said "Aaah, a pin collector" and told the other guy just to x-ray the bag again separately.

So maybe some extra security, but definitely no confiscation. :)

We recently returned from an all-carryon trip to WDW. I put my DS's pins into a ziplock and in a distinct place (an inside zippered pocket). Had no problems coming or going.

I always put mine in a ziplock bag, and keep it in my purse. then when i go through security, i take the ziplock out and lay it on top so security can clearly see it.

i'm so proud of you going on this grand adventure alone! you are going to have such a great time on the girls trip.

We've never had any problems. I usually carry two ziplock bags (one for each child) in my backpack with 25-50 pins and haven't been asked or stopped or anything..

Funny you should ask because I had the exact same concern coming home from WDW in October.

I asked a security person at the airport what the rule was before checking our bags (in case I had to do a little re-packing of my 100 pins LOL). He stepped away, consulted with a co-worker, read something and returned to inform me of a rule that is in their official guide that I found humorous.

Seems there is an official policy addressing the wearing or transporting of "excessive amounts" of lapel-style pins. They are permitted in carry-on luggage when traveling to or from Orlando or Southern California airports.

I thought it was very entertaining that a Disney activity has caused the need for its own national air travel security rule.

We buy a full lanyard every time we go to DLR. We only had a problem on one trip. We usually put them in our carry on bag and they go through screening just fine. Only once, did one of the security people asked to see what it the pins were. After they saw what they were, it was no problem. They even paused to look at them and told us how cool they were. :)

Just another example of how powerful the Mouse is! :lmao:
