I'm now completely boggle-eyed and no nearer a decision, having looked at too many web sites and Trip Advisor reviews! Can anyone here recommend somewhere to stay on Islamorada that's clean and quiet without breaking the bank?

We already have the rest of the trip booked and have just this last piece of the jigsaw to fit in :sunny:

Hilary,
When you find a place can you let me know please ? ;-) I have the same problem.

LOL! When will you be there? We're going at the end of April / beginning May so, if you're going after then, I'll happily report back on what we find :) (assuming we ever reach a decision about where to go! ;) )

One piece of advice - dont rely too heavily on the trip advisor ratings - We have found them to be a bit misleading and last year decided to ignore what tripadvisor recommended and booked a hotel in I drive that we liked the look of. Trip Advisor rated the hotel quite low but we had an excellent experience and did not experience any of the issues reported on Trip Advisor.

Good luck with your search,

Have you tried TravelRepublic co uk

Hi Hilary:)

We stayed at the Cheeca Lodge - a really lovely resort, they were in the middle of renovating rooms while we were there 3 years ago. It's in a great location and has a lovely pool, as well as a natural seawater pool.

We did enjoy our stay there, but felt pushed into one of the old, not so nice rooms since we were booked with Virgin.

However, the food was excellent, the staff very helpful and we had the most amazing snorkelling trip with the hotel.

There are some little shops and restaurants nearby, too.

I am staying there in May and decided on the Chesapeake Resport as it looked like nice little beach, good rooms and free continental breakfast.

Booked on Virgin Atlantic's webiste for hotels only as this was the cheapest for when I am going which was amazing as I get Virgin miles too. Choose Miami and then it should come up. Found this to be the best price after searching through the following:

Travelsupermarket.com
Expedia.com
Hotelopia.com

I checked Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews to get peoples pluses and negatives.

Tripadvisor reports are mostly good with some US picky people complaining about it not being a full resort. I am more than happy with my choice as I am sure Virgin would not choose a dump for their brochure.

As I am going after you I cannot give an actual review until I get back in May, but if anyone still want's an opinion I am happy to let them know.

Thanks for the suggestions :) I had looked at both the Cheeca Lodge and Chesapeake Resort and thought they looked really nice, but I was hoping for something less expensive ;) We've almost settled on somewhere called Coral Bay Resort, but I'm waiting to hear about availability and then we'll make a final decision, hopefully!

I understand completely the comment about not taking Trip Advisor comments too much to heart - there's usually both really good and really bad reported about every resort on there!
