Do you have the songs "checked" on iTunes? It will only copy the checked items.

My computer automatically ran a virus scan when I was loading...could that have something to do with it?

No idea. :confused3 When you put the CDs on iTunes, you see them listed...correct? Just make sure the boxes next to each song are checked. It will copy all the checked selections.

Check your settings. If you have the newest version of iTunes, plug your iPod in and when the update page comes up check the different sections. Under "Music" make sure you have "sync music" checked, and do you have "all songs and playlists" selected or "selected playlists" selected? Also, on that main update page that comes up, make sure you uncheck the option for "only sync checked items" and that you uncheck "manually manage music and videos"

If you don't have the "sync music" or "sync video" or whatever, it won't automatically update when you add music.

Sometimes mine gets glitchy and I have to disconnect my iPod and plug it back in, or restart my computer and bring iTunes back up again. But it sounds like you might not have it set up to automatically transfer your library.

I can't figure out why you would want to drop from 30G to 8? I'd keep the 30 just for the ability to store more music. You don't HAVE to use video!

The only reason I would do this is because of size of the ipod. I know the 30g isn't big, but I really just want songs to walk with or exercise and the Nano seems much smaller and easier to do this with. I am really not into watching video's on it, as we don't travel much, even to WDW sadly, so I was wondering if it would be worth it to keep or just downsize for now? I am not too ipod savvy and I am not sure I would even have 20,000 songs or pics to load on it!!!

buy into the Nano, the 8 gig version.

I've had the 4g nano for a year and it's full. There's so much more I COULD put on it, but that would mean rotating stuff out and I don't want to do that. I wish I had thought ahead and gotten the larger one. The nano is small and it's cute -- that was the draw for me. Next year, I'll be looking to upgrade to larger.

Thanks everyone...I think I am going to downsize to the Nano. My DH was so sweet and told me to downsize if I wanted and if I found that I wanted the bigger one then we could go back up and give the Nano to one of the kids!

Took me forever to break down and get an ipod, and got one that didn't hold enough songs for me. I got a new one for Christmas, and transferring was a breeze. :)

It doesn't have video. Personally, I don't want to watch anything on a teeny tiny screen, and have never found myself wishing that I could watch anything on an ipod. I use a portable DVD player for airplanes - fits in a purse - and that screen is small enough!

The kids have video ones, they love them.
