OK, I'll try to keep this coherent.

Yesterday morning, Ipod Nano was working fine. Tried to listen to it going home, and NOTHING! It just wouldn't turn on. I didn't drop it, get it wet, or connect it to anything, it just WON'T WORK!!!!

So, I go to iPod's troubleshooting page. Problem is, every step requires the darn thing to be FUNCTIONING! And yes, it was fully charged in the morning. Oh, when I did connect it to my computer at home, Windows detects the iPod, but iTunes doesn't. When I try to "Safely Remove Hardware," I get an error message telling me that the device is still working, even though iTunes doesn't register it!!!

Any ideas???? I'm behind on the podcasts, I NEED HELP!

have you tried holding down the pause button and the select (middle circle) button?

usually this will reboot it!

Yup, tried that....nada.

I've also downloaded the latest iTunes, & again, nada. Is there a tearing your hair out smilie?????

LOL! :rotfl2:

That would be something I'd do! But nope, it's not on.

Totally blank screen. No light, no Apple logo, zip.

A security guard where I work claims his Nano's battery went kaput after only a few months, but I have a hard time believing that - I've only had this thing since January!

The newest, 3rd.

Even more fun, last time I plugged it into the USB, it froze every program on my computer.

Excuse me while I go beat my head against a wall.....

it seems your generation is hold down the menu button and the select button not the pause(on/off) button!

If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

Tried all that - nothin'.

I can't believe I have such an unusual problem that's it's not showing up on their support page. Since iTunes isn't registering it, apparently....

"If you cannot force your iPod into disk mode and restore it, then your iPod is in need of service."

This is a tad worrying, since there's no Apple store here! And I hate dealing with FutureShop (where I bought it. Not sure if they're in the US - they're the same company as Best Buy.)

did you have the wall plug charger? if you do it says to try plugging it in that?

Nope, don't have a wall charger, just the computer.

Aaaargh, now DH is home - which means I have to get offline - it's Friday, so it's his turn to get the internet connection. (He has to play Hobo Wars on FaceBook - if you haven't heard of it, believe me ,you don't want to!!! :faint: )

Thanks for trying to help me, & if ANYONE else is reading this.....

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

My nano did that after a few months - battery was kaput...wouldn't even charge. No warning - just dead as a doornail.

I priced taking it to a local place that works on iPods and have the battery replaced. It was almost as much as the nano cost me. So, I just upgraded. I've had my new iPod for a year now with no problems at all.

Sorry I can't be more help at troubleshooting.
