Any interest in a Disney Cruise swap this spring?

These will be the requirements for the swap:

This is a Disney Cruise Element Swap. You will create 2 elements for each group you sign up for. You can choose from any of the elements below, or come up with any of your own creations.

All elements should be double-matted and embellished unless otherwise noted!!

~~~~Element List ~~~~~
1 Topper – 8 inch long by 2 inch wide
2 Borders (a pair) – 11 inches long (or 12 inches long that can be cut to 11)
2 Journaling Boxes--minimum 2.5"x2.5" writing space
4 embellished squares (or decorative shapes)--largest mat should be no larger than 2"
2 Photo Frames--for a 4 x 6 photo & the Sizzix dies are ok (you need to crop a bit from the photo to use these.) Two layers on the frame would make the photo seem double matted.
2 Photo Mats--for a 4 x 6 photo without cropping. Again, two layers as the photo sits on top of these.
2 Tags--no smaller than 2 x 3 and larger is fine; double matted PLUS fiber/ribbon and/or eyelet/brad in the hole.
1 Journaling Box n Tag--one journal box with matching tag (see details above)
1 Mini File folder--embellished but need not be double-matted
1 Library Pocket and Tag--embellished but need not be double-matted
1 Shaker Box
1 Paper Piecing
1 Matted Poem or song Lyric--text area must be no smaller than 2 1/2 by 3 1/2
Groups will have 5 swappers in each. Group topics will be : general Disney Cruise, Magic Western, Magic Eastern, Disney Wonder, Misc. There will also be color groups where you make your items in the colors you choose (i.e. nautical, beach, etc.) - similar to the color swaps that are held.
New for this swap: I'm also going to have completed page groups. The completed page swaps have become popular, so I will set up some groups for completed cruise pages. For these groups you will create a 12x12 page that is ready to have pictures placed right on it. Your page should have a title, photo mats, journaling area, and embellishments.
Some topics that have been done in the past: DCL terminal, Castaway Cay, Nassau, Golden Mickeys, Disney Dreams, Parrot Cay, Animator's Palate, Mickey pool, Palo, ports of call.
Feel free to share any suggestions you may have!
Signups will be posted on Monday and items will be due on July 19th.
I'd love to have this spot....if I could
4 embellished squares (or decorative shapes)--largest mat should be no larger than 2"
with....general Disney Cruise
thanks
Sure, RLccweems. I will post signups tomorrow so just let me know which group you would like to be in. Also, it is 2 elements that you will need to pick. You don't need to tell me your elements at signups, just your topic and group.
I'm hoping to post signups in the morning (assuming my 3 year old DS cooperates). I will leave signups open for a few days and will continue to add more groups as they fill.
Just curious....each group will have 5 preselected categories already in them, correct? We won't know what the 5 categories are until morning sometime? Or is it just the first 5 people in one group and then the next 5 people in the next group? Kind of was hoping I would be able to know ahead of time so I know what I am signing up for!! This is my first time with this kind of swap so I want to make sure I understand beforehand!! Thanks Michellepooh! I know you mentioned setting it up for the morning but any idea of what time? It's hard because at work I can't keep checking every 5 minutes to signup. I only have 2 chances to log on tomorrow!! Yikes!
Faith&Hope - The groups will be labeled "Disney Wonder", "Magic Western", etc. You decide which group(s) you want to join and then choose a topic that fits in that category. For example, if you choose the "Magic Western" group you might choose "Key West" as your topic.
I'm hoping to have signups up around 9AM. Like I said, if certain groups fill up, I will just keep opening new groups for that category.
Thank you for clarifying for me! Do you have the link for the swap you hosted last year? Maybe that will help me figure out what groups to sign up for. Thanks!
Just out of curiousity, why are the groups limited to only 5? :confused3 I, personally, would opt to do a group of 10. It sounds like more work but actually it isn't. The most time consuming part of the swap is coming up with the idea/design! Once you have the idea, you just make 5 more (10 instead of 5). That way, you don't have to try to sign up for 2 groups of 5 and have to come up with 2 different designs. Being a detailed scrapbooker, it is a lot easier for me to comeup with one design, make 10 of that and then get back 10 items in return! I just finished the MK swap (the Disneyland part) and having to come up with 2 designs and make only 5 of each seemed to be really time consuming. :eek:
All of our local swaps are 10-12 per group. That's how I know it's a lot easier to do it that way!! Anyone considered this? I've noticed some of the online swaps are smaller groups. Since this is only my 3rd DIS online swap, I don't know why they are kept to smaller groups! Fill me in!!
I just realized Michellepooh is 3 hours different than me! That means I better get to bed because I have to wake up earlier!:rotfl2:
One reason online swaps tend to be smaller is postage- one group of 5 page kits can still fit in an envelope but once you reach 10 they generally can't- smaller groups allows people to join in just one group and spend less money. Also in many swaps with specific items (such as a cruise) it is hard to fill up large groups- so small groups is easier. In your example of the Disneyland groups- there were only about 6-7 people in all of those groups together so if there was a group of 10 originally it wouldn't have filled up and instead of doing 2 groups of 5 and getting 10 items you might have done one group of 7 and gotten only 7 items.
Faith&Hope...
Just wanted to let you know that you're not the only one who thinks it's easier to do 10 instead of 5...I feel the same way.
When I first started doing swaps on DIS, the swaps were 23-24 in a group. Now, I have to admit, that was difficult to get into the mailing envelope! I haven't had difficulty with 10-12 in a group though. I host swaps locally with 10-15 in a group (however many want to sign up) and I definitely like making a lot of one thing rather than coming up with different design ideas. I've just learned to go with the flow I guess... I haven't ventured as far as to host one yet, so...
One thing I can say...the ladies here do a great job, so at least you know that the 5 you get are quality!
Thanks rlovew and 4ltltinks for helping out! Like rlovew said, specialized swaps like this one don't typically have a lot of different participants. The small group sizes allow the participants to sign up for multiple groups and still receive a large variety of swap items. I was in some of those groups of 24 that 4ltltinks described and that was tough! If the participants in this swap decide they want larger groups, that's fine with me.
Off to work on signups!
:)
If you haven't signed up on the thread that Michellepooh posted for the cruise swap, head on over and sign up! The more the merrier!!
The swap signups are closing Monday so head on over and sign up! There's a lot of you on this board that haven't signed up! Just want to make sure you sign up if you are interested!! Have a great weekend!
