I know there is some fishing trips you can book....does anyone have info or experience on these?

Our family has done two. The first one was just the kids doing the kids fishing trip. (NOTE: You must have reservations for all trips and I don't know about the refund/cancellation policy. The kids trip is up to 12 yrs old I think. They were firm about that but we went to the dock and also got ds 13 on too with his little brothers, (Thanks captain). They went from the boardwalk but I misunderstood the pick up point and they picked us up from the yacht and beach marina and took the boys over to boardwalk. They are a little older and good swimmers so they got upset that lifevests were mandatory when the boat was moving. THey fished close to the dock and only caught blue gills. I don't know if they went over by mgm or not. I think they did. They thought it was funny that the captain used hotdogs for bait and they got powerade to drink. They had a good time.
The 2nd trip was the family bass fishing trip that left from the Poly dock. This is not cheap. Over $200 for trip, bait and tip. You get a 2 hour time block from like 6-8, 8-10 etc. We chose 8-10. It was hot for sure at the end of the trip. The captain told us that most people chose 6-8 because its cooler and alot less noise and water traffic, i.e. no ferrys or water mice etc. The bait (little killies etc is by the dozen I think). THe maximum number is 5. We went all the way over by discovery island. They sure do bite there. Its catch and release. and they will even bait your hook and take the fish off the line if you want. We had so much fun and guess who caught the most, me the mom of course. put my dh and the 3 ds to shame. We took alot of pictures and we want to do it again so we'll have to start saving.

Does anyone know if these fishing trips are offered in January? My husband wants to go for his birthday, but I think it may be too cold so early in the morning at that time of year. Well, maybe not for us New Englanders, but probably for the poor Floridian fishing guide! :)

luvmarypoppins...thanks for the info!

Jynohn.....my guess is that this is probably available at all times of the year

Jynohn,
We have gone the last week of Jan for 5 years. We have seen them catch 12" and better Largemouth within 25 ft of the dock at the Wilderness Lodge. I've wanted to go but have never done it before. The bluegill are huge also but we've never seen anyone boat any yet. Might try a fishing trip this year.

Thank you so much for your replies. DH is going to be so happy! I made the mistake of telling him about these fishing trips to get him excited about our vacation (he merely tolerates Disney). Now it's all he talks about....

Jynohn...that is too funny!! That is my same exact motivation!!::yes::

We are flying in on 12/1 and I will be at WL. Would anyone out there like to share this expense with me?

I will probably do the early morning trip one day even if I have to go by myself.

Russ
