Hey everybody,

I heard a whil back that there was a rumor that Soarin was going to get a refub some time and they were going to put in a new movie -Soarin around the world. Anyone have any info about when Disney is going to do this?
I think it would be great.

TIA

Good question! My dh and I were wondering why they don't have a few movies that they rotate in Soarin' so people don't get bored with the same old film. It's so short - they need a new one!!!

I've moved this thread to the Rumors and News board.

There have been a few obscure internet whispers claiming that permits have been filed to make a new Soarin' film, but no credible evidence has been produced to support this. And Disney certainly hasn't said anything. So right now it all still remains just a rumor. :)

Just another rumor that has been around almost since day 1 of Soarin'.

Soarin is not getting a new film. The attraction is wildly, wildly popular. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

In other news, Star Tours 2 is postponed yet again. [SARCASM]

As long as Soarin' still packs them in I can't see Disney spending money on a new movie.

I reluctantly agree on why they won't spend the money now to film a second ride...but I don't understand why it wasn't initially built with the ability to do two films. I would think that technologically speaking, it wouldn't have been anything for the ride itself to do multiple programs. It just would be a matter of filming two expensive flights.

Soarin' is the best ride at Epcot!

The same film has playad in DL CA for much longer and there are still lines for it. It's our first stop in the mornings before we decide what else we want to do for the day. It's only steps from the Grand Californian's entrance. The lines are far too long later in the day.

If Walt was still alive he would have made a new movie. Plusing it, people. pluses. makes people what to come back see it again.

I don't agree with this statement at all. If what you say is the case, then they would be getting a new movie every year. Just by getting a new movie for a ride doesn't mean you are "plussing" it. While I would agree that Walt may have looked for ways to "plus" the ride, changing the movie just isn't considered "plussing", because you would have to do it all the time.

Why you shouldn't expect to " Soar over the World " before 2011

Don't know if you've noticed it, but it has been quite a while since we've heard about the awaited "Soarin' over the World" movie. Generally, in the forum rumors, everybody keep saying that the movie has been filmed, and should arrive at DCA or Epcot anytime soon.

On the DLP forums, most of the members were ready to bet some months ago that "Soarin over the World" would be the next big "E-Ticket" at the Walt Disney Studios - I even wrote an article explaining where the Imagineers kept the room at the WDS to build the attraction in the future. And then, it became almost official that a Ratatouille dark ride should be WDS next big E-Ticket and no-Soarin' attraction was schedule for the future.

Well, the reality of all this is a bit different. Soarin' over the World will definitely not be the next attraction at WDS, but it doesn't mean that it will never come at the WDS. In fact, if DLP executives didn't choose it as the next WDS E-Ticket it's simply because they couldn't do it. Why? Simply because the movie is not filmed yet, and won't be before 2010!

Last year, WDI imagineers began scouting locations around the world, and they will continue this year. Once the locations are choosen, they'll need to have government's authorizations to film from an helicopter, and in some not-totally-democratic countries it's not that easy and can take a long time. The shooting itself - except if they change the dates - is scheduled for 2010. There is probably different reasons for that. First, the new "grand opening" of Disney's Caifornia Adventure - the park who need the most a new Soarin' movie as the first one is already 9 years old - won't be before 2011-2012. And it seems that Disney and WDI want to "keep" the new movie for this new beginning of DCA. And Two: an economic reason. Lot of works will happen at DCA in the next two years, it's not going to be cheap this time and they are definitely more important to create a brand new park than a new Soarin' movie.

They didn't make a new film for Canada in Epcot for many many years and it was not a popular attraction, what makes you think they would change Soarin after this short of a time with how popular the ride is?

First of all, whoever wrote that article is illiterate. Let's just get that out of the way.

Secondly, why in the name of the big man upstairs would Disney film a "Soarin' Over the World" and then place it in DCA? It's Disney's California Adventure! They're spending $1.5 billion to overhaul it into a more authentic Californian experience, and you mean to tell me that upon it's grand reopening they're going to change "Soarin' Over California" to "the World?" Where's the logic in that? Placing it in Epcot makes perfect sense, but then this kind of idiocy sounds on par with WDI and Disney itself.

Soarin' is so popular in DCA because, let's face it, it's DCA. Soarin' is so popular in Epcot because there is nothing else to do in Future World, particularly when it opens first thing in the morning. It's an utter catastrophe that when they drop the rope, your E-ticket options are Soarin', Test Track and Mission: Space. TT is fun but getting so long in the tooth. M:S was a poor idea from the start; you can always tell when an amusement park is strapped for ideas when they construct a building and put a ride inside that basically justs spins in circles at high revolutions. My point is, those are your three top choices out of (what used to be) seven outer-ring pavilions. Disney needs to gut and re-imagine UoE, tear down the WoL building, re-think M:S, re-theme TT, dynamite the Imagination Institute and turn it into the "Sky Pavilion", leave the Land as is (but give it a world Soarin' movie), and dump all the Pixar junk from the Living Seas. Ah, but wait, the economy's bad and now would be the perfect time to get going, so you can be sure nothing will be done. End scene.

the question is why would Disney spend a dime on a new film for Soarin', makes zero sense

Wow Disney is definitely not trying to transform California Adventure into a more authentic California experience! They are doing completely the opposite and want to make it more of a Disney experience. There are talks and the possibility that the DCA name will changed entirely.

You're only saying that because you're from Orange County. It's no less than when we talk about WDW, and the locals hem and haw about Disney and how it does everything wrong and has done nothing to improve the "Orlando way of life."

DCA is irrelevant. Nobody takes a trip to France and visits an amusement park called France-land because it perfectly encapsulates everything French. Why Disney ever thought that people in California would want to pay to visit a California-land is beyond me. It was Eisner spending >$1 billion on a quick amusement fix. Whatever they do to it can only make it better; it has nowhere to go but up. Also, why would they need to have "talks" to change the name? Who are they talking to, the shadow consortium that owns the word "California"? They're not re-theming the park just face-lifting it, so while they may drop the word "Adventure" I guarantee you "Disney" and "California" will remain.

Ok then... I am actually a Disneyland Resort Cast Member.

Wow, that happened quickly.

I'll admit, Disneyland is a better "Magic Kingdom" than the one in Orlando (with the exception of the castle). Also, DCA is the closest many of us dreamers will ever get to what would have been Disney's America. Nevertheless, I won't be visiting DL again until they've finished DCA in 2012. No point.

I know people will disagree with me but I was very disappointed with Soarin in WDW! I love the ride but it makes much more sense in California Adventure which we visit frequently, being that we live in California. When we went to WDW two years ago, I expected Soarin' to be about the whole country or different cities in the world as that would make sense in Epcot.

I truly hope they make a new movie. I LOVE the original but not in Florida! Sorry, don't mean to offend anyone.
