I have an interview Thursday for trainer at my job, and I'd really like the
job. I have to give a 10 min presentation on anything I want. I was going
to talk about racing, but I really want to do something that the people
interviewing me can be hands on and do while teaching them. I am truly at a
loss. I am not crafty, or anything like that. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

I know a professional lady who had to do something like that at an interview. They want to see if you have the skills to "train" people. So the key is to present/train something you are are very familiar with ...so that you can focus on gauging your students' receptiveness and be successful in passing on your expertise. This lady was getting back into a full-time career after several years of having a couple of children and some PT work. So...she did her presentation on :
Changing a diaper. She "trained" the interview panel :) She got the job and has been very successful as an administrator in a field that has nothing to do with changing diapers ;) but showcases her ability to "know her audience" ,and meet their needs!!

So you may want to expand on that racing topic/idea if it's something you are familiar and comfortable with....what can you "teach" them about it.....

you'll be fine, I'm sure!!

Best of luck!!

I work for a call centre that takes calls from Sprint PCS customers, so it would be training new employees.

I could show so many things if the people I'm presenting to could use computers, but that's not the case.

Thanks for the diaper changing idea. Just have to really put some thought into this...just don't have a lot of time.

The main issue you are dealing with for this is to:

1) Define the objective
2) Establish why it's important to them
3) Train them (nuts and bolts of topic of interest)
4) Summarize
5) Apply what they've learned in real life

You can do anything such as sewing on a button to a shirt or learning how to tie a fishing rope into a proper knot or about how to make Lemonade??

I just saw your post.

How about telephone etiquette? That might be something that you could have some fun with (with illustrative stories and outcomes). It would show them you have some interest and ideas on the job you want to take on.

Here's a website with a lot of ideas.

How about a presentation on how to bake chocolate chip cookies. While you are presenting, they could be eating your delicous cookies. Surely they'll remember you fondly after enjoying your cookies. :)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. My daughter is going to teach me how to make a bead animal keychain and I will take the supplies with me and show the interviewers. that way they see my teaching skills (or lack of!LOL) and can take something with them.

Now, I have to hope I grasp how to do it quickly!LOL

Bead animals will be fun! When we do them at VBS we always hand each child a baggie with all the beads they need already counted out, trust me it will make your life much easier!;) I know your working with adults but they can often be big kids and I find it best to use all the same color. Good luck with your interview.:teeth:

Many of us here could train people on how to plan a WDW trip:earsboy:
