Any ideas for making a privacy screen between beds?

We are doing a big family trip next spring and I want to rig a screen between the two queen beds at OKW to give the young adults a bit of privacy. I was thinking of buying one of those cheap clothes racks on wheels like the ones clothing stores use and hang a sheet over it. Any other ideas?

Not to be Debbie Downer, but how would you pack something like that? The ones I've seen don't look like they fold. You could use a room divider. But those only fold lengthwise & are pretty long to carry, plus aren't cheap. Either option doesn't really provide much privacy, if a light is on, both sides will see it, if one person is talking, everyone hears it. For changing, you could rig up a curtain type thing in sink area using a removable tape type substance and a curtain. this wouldn't work between beds though because of the fan.

I kind of see that as futile as well. Never seen anyone attempt something like that really.

If they're young adults, they should be able to deal with sleeping in the same room. How did we do it in college dorms? They're lucky to be staying somewhere like OKW!

If they really need privacy, maybe they should book two separate rooms like at a value resort.

We Travel as a large family and share rooms. Believe me when I say that if you think you need a privacy screen, you all need your own rooms. I am not being snarky, just speaking from experience. Not every family is comfortable saying close space together, and no sheet, screen, or folding door is going to change that, and families who are used traveling together don't want to bother with contraptions that are simply for show.

I can help.

1/2" pvc pipe, and an assortment of fittings can be made into a very sturdy frame. Then you request a couple extra sheets and clip them up using spring clamps or those big binder clips.

By using coupler fittings you can get the lengths of pipe down to whatever will fit in your luggage and altogether it won't weigh more than a couple pounds per screen.

Cost wise, it's cheep enough to abandon at the end of the trip if you need more luggage space on return trip.

If you like, I can post a picture and a design sketch to show how to arrange a free standing frame. It's exactly the thing I use as backdrop supports in my studio.

Who do you suggest take care of it when it is "abandoned"??

I was going to say the exact same thing as PP about the 1-bedroom villa. I don't know the exact reasons for wanting privacy - privacy for a young couple from you? Or privacy for you from your older same-gender 2 kids? In any case, if your schedules may vary and the younger ones are staying out later - the villa makes even more sense. Or maybe you are talking about 2 younger couples, and you're not in one of the two beds in question? If that's the case - I think you should talk to them. I'm trying to envision DH and me childless in our 20s, on vacation with my sister and BIL on the other side of a sheet... and we would all have figured out an alternative, tbh. :)

I would suggest housekeeping. Something with pvc like pp suggested would disassemble easily and all fit in a small grocery bag for trash. Maybe just leave a couple extra dollars to the tip for the small amount of added trash.

I believe Republic Services is the trash pickup provider for wdw resort properties. Rather odd thing to worry about who hauls away your trash though so I could be mistaken.

Slip it into the nearest full size trash can on your way out.

I'm trying to figure out why that would even be beneficial? I mean is a sheet really giving anyone privacy? You can still hear and pretty much see through a sheet (at least shadows). Is it just the illusion of privacy that is needed? Because a sheet/screen between the beds isn't really giving much if any privacy. I have stayed in hotels with other adults, other family members, couples and singles, etc. if you can't stay in a room with someone without a privacy screen I'd suggest not sharing a hotel room. I'm sorry, I just think either separate rooms would be better than trying to erect a privacy barrier in a shared hotel space.

No offense, but there really is no privacy for those sharing a hotel room. You can try to create the illusion of privacy with a screen but everyone is still in one room and sharing a bathroom area. If anyone is uncomfortable you should make alternate lodging arrangements.

I'm another in the camp of "why". If the young adults want privacy, they can get another room. What privacy is a sheet or whatever actually going to give them? It gives no privacy. They can change in the bathroom.

I'm also kind of in the camp of "ew", what do they need privacy *for*?

Is this like a Brady Bunch Greg-and-Marcia scenario? :rotfl:
