I am in a wedding this weekend and just found out that I am giving a toast. It didn't occur to me because there are no maid or matron of honors so we are all the same. I am happy to do it but would really like to say something that meant something. Is there any ideas out that you have heard at yours or others that meant a lot to you or them? Please no funnies as I would bomb like a fart in church as my mom would say.

Great couple actually more into the marriage then the wedding which is nice to see.

No kids yet.

TIA

I read a quote at my sister's wedding when I was her matron of Honor... It's from A life for a life by Dinah Craik and was written in 1859.

oh, the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort--the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person--having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.

I can still remember two of the speeches at my wedding. One was my FIL who gave the same speech he gives every year at thanksgiving. I guess, it was good but I kid of tuned out at that point. So what I am saying is make it origional. I cant say how my DH and I did not feel special by his dad giving the same old toast. My dad gave the other speech. He worked very hard on it and I love him for it as he hates getting up in front of people. It was a good speech but very long. I love my dad and I am amazed that he wrote what he did but I think it would have been better if it had been a little shorter and he wouldnt have been as stressed.
All I remember of the best mans toast is that he made some sort of semi inappropriate joke.

THis is a great site and gives good tips about giving and writing a toast.

our best man did a great speech entitle " The top ten reasons why John and Jen will have a Happy and Sucessfull Marriage" He and his wife created the list, it was sweet creative and personal .

I was the maid of honor for my best friend back in July and the toast I gave had a lot to do with her and how she changed once he came into her life. She never wanted to date, let alone marry, but when she met him, that all changed. So I talked about that and made it funny. I also tossed in some sentimental things as well. I made it personal and made it for the couple. The words I spoke were for them to hear and it was important to me that they knew that. Since everyone else was listening in too, I made sure that I kept it on a level where they all could be part of it. I ended quoting something at the end from "When Harry met Sally". Harry talks about how when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

Good luck. It took me a long time to get my speech done. I started working on it right after the shower and was still doing re writes the day before. But it came out great and I was able to give the couple a copy to keep.

If I was you, I would really incorporate how they met, and what they are like as a couple. Or maybe tell a short story about them that shows what kind of couple they are or the kind of relationship they have.

Keep it simple, and from the heart and you should have no problem.
