Any ideas for a cool gift for a female college freshman.

It can be totally useless but cool! I'm looking in the $50-100 range (or a collection of things that add up to that amount).

SIL is a freshman in college and to be honest we don't know her that well. We'll probablly have some CDs or an iTunes gift card as stocking stuffers.

What's the hot gotta have it thing for 18/19 year old girls?

There are some dorm living girls that age here so I thought I'd ask.

College kids love Starbucks. You could probably get her a $50 Starbucks Card and she would be over the moon. She would probably would love a CG to the school bookstore. I would say a roll of quarters for laundry but many of the schools that we have looked at the laundry is on your Student ID. You load money on your Student ID and use that for laundry and things like that.

College kids are poor, I think that she would appreciate anything.

My daughter and all her college friends are all into the Gilmore Girls Seasons DVDs this year. The latest season comes out in a week or so.

Aside from that if she is away at college or even driving back and forth an assortment of small amounts on gift cards for eateries and gas would be a nice gift.

Cash is good. DD just got a 20 from a friend and was sooooo thrilled!! Then she could buy pizza or whatever. I think Cash is really the best :) I guess you could wrap it up in different boxes if you wanted to make it look better :)

Great ideas, keep them coming! A little more info. She's going to college in the same town that she grew up in. While she lives in a dorm her parents are both professors at the school she attends.

Thye are traveling here for the holidays so gift cards are a great idea. Maybe iTunes and Starbucks? There isn't a mall or really any chain restaurants in their town so it's kinda limited. Is there are cool gadget or toy that is in?

The gift cards are a great idea! (Mom of a sophomore DD in college!)

We bought my DD a S'Mores Maker last year - and it's very nice and cool to use -- but it's illegal for a dorm room!! :guilty: DD had to leave it here.

I don't know that there is one cool gadget or item that's particularly hot this year.

My DD is really into the Disney Princesses, especially Aurora. At WalMart, in the craft department there are tons of Princess crafts - picutre frames, etc. After a gentle hint from said DD, I went in and bought a bunch of her for Christmas.

Bath and Body shower gels and lotions are always good. Those soft, fuzzy scarves are great -- most of the stores carry them, but WalMart's price is only $4.99! Slippers are also good.

I would do a gift basket with cash, gift cards (even online stores), and maybe some acessories (those big belts, long earings, tank tops etc.) I love to make gift baskets because it is alot of little things.

I agree with Laugh O grams. A hamper full of things she'd never usually buy herself (good, expensive chocolate, really nice cookies etc...) would be good.

I'm at college and my housemate gets things like this a lot, I know she loves having a bunch of things that are useful in the sense that she can eat them, but different in the sense that she would never spend her own money on them.

That hip kits gift baskets are really neat-- thanks for the link

a roll of quarters to use the washing machine and the vending machine. A "stash" of snacks! I used to love to get care packages in the mail when I was in college. How about a small microwave oven?
