Any idea how to tell if Uggs are fake?

My DD just got Uggs for Christmas from her Grandmother. She loves them but I just have a question on them. I know my DSIL got them for her on the net, but I don't know what website. The problem is, to me they feel like they are fake suede. I have 2 pairs of Uggs myself so I know what they should feel like & these feel like its some sort of fake material. My MIL pays top dollar for everything so its not a matter of finances, I just want to make sure she didn't get ripped off. Is there anything on the box or in the shoe that shows if they are real or not? My Dd will never notice the difference but I just don't want them to fall part & have her upset.

They have a tag inside that is black if you look at it one way and white another.....Hologram like. I got a pair of UGGS and that is what a card said that came in the box with them.

we tried to get the UGGS slippers and they were no longer in retail by me, not macys, no where....
Many online, even amazon did not have them????
They have a very distinct tag.....but seriously, unless you are going to ship them back, possibly upset your child and dsil, I am not sure if it is worth it. If they unglue (which is I htink where you're going with this...you can likely just glue them back up.

The real Uggs have a wool lining in them, the fake ones have like a fake fur lining... not wool.

I think looking at these on the UGG website & the info about the hologram tag that they are actually real ones. They just feel so strange! Thanks so much for the info.

I've seen non-Ugg brand with wool lining though..

The tag inside is the best way to determine one from the other.

My poor parents got duped this Christmas buying me Uggs Mom went to a googled website thinking it was the official site and was lured by $89 Uggs (short ones). She bought them and then received them from China . They looked legit but she was suspicious with the packing slip and everything being in Chinese other than her name & address to be shipped to. She brought them to a local shoe store and showed them. Side by side the differences are obvious and as a Previous poster stated, the legit Uggs come with a note inside explaining the hologram label on the box of actual Uggs to counteract the counterfeit. My parents ended up buying me real ones too so in all actuality, they spent $220 on 1 pair of real and 1 pair of fake Uggs since there was no way to return the fake ones because there was no return address Upon going on the website today, I've noticed that a TON of knock-off Ugg sites were removed from Google most likely for similar complaints:http://www.chillingeffects.org/notice.cgi?sID=33407

Since your parents bought them online, I'm assuming they used a credit card. Tell them to dispute the charge with their credit card company. The credit card company can find them.

Sometimes you can also tell by the language usage on the website. For example, here's the text from one of the websites that sells fake Uggs:

"ugg boots sale shop to buy ugg boots can be very simple. You want to make sure you have the right size. ugg boots tend to run a little big, so consider a full size smaller than you're used to. If you still do not buy what size, of course, you can always go to the store and tried on several pairs, so that you can get the exact size. Just make sure you try on shoes similar to those you want to buy online.

Online purchase ugg boots can be very simple, but you always want to make sure you check the return policy. You do not want to get a really nice shoes do not fit on the stick."

Since your parents bought them online, I'm assuming they used a credit card. Tell them to dispute the charge with their credit card company. The credit card company can find them.

I did actually mention that to her on Christmas, but I guess she bought them in October and didn't realize they were fakes until she went to buy my daughters some Uggs @ the store in December. She brought the ones she'd bought online in to have the store owner examine them and he confirmed they were indeed counterfeit boots. My mom didn't want the "hassle" of contesting it with the credit card company so she told me to keep the fakes for inclement weather days and the real ones for nice days.... I just feel so badly though that she got taken especially when she rarely ever uses a credit card or shops online.

If she should change her mind, most credit cards have a 6 month period where you can contest the charges, and it's a very easy process. Usually, you just complete a simple form. Sometimes all you have to do is call customer service.

The Uggs Australia website was hacked about a month or so ago. When you went to their site to order Uggs, someone in China had rerouted all of the orders from their site to his. My sister got taken in by this scheme. She ordered Uggs, thinking that since she was on the official website, she would get real Uggs. When she received them, they didn't look just right to her. She took them to an Uggs retailer, and they told her they were fake. She contacted Uggs, and they told her what had happened with their website. She paid for the fake Uggs with her American Express card. They canceled the charge and told her to keep the fake Uggs.
