We decided today to go down 9/28-10/2. There are zero reservations on 9/28 at HS available lunch or dinner. Wanted to do afternoon tea...no availability. One character breakfast...nope.

At this super last minute date are we relegated to churro carts and counter service?

Keep in mind the 24 hour cancellation rule. What I do is pretend I'm at the park trying to get dinner for the next day or the day after. Amazing what will pop up sometimes. I just checked HS (for 6 - not sure how many in your party) and saw Mama Melrose and Brown Derby. Granted, they were late times, but there nonetheless. Lunch, Brown Derby at 3:00. Keep checking!

I generally agree that if you're flexible with where you want to eat and when you want to eat, something will probably open up. You did mention two of the more difficult things to get: a character meal and the afternoon tea. I'd hold out less hope for the afternoon tea than the character meal because there are several character meal options at WDW (e.g., Chef Mickey's, Crystal Palace, Tusker House, Cape May Cafe, Akershus, CRT, etc.). Likewise, as long as you are flexible there are several options at DHS. You could also try to the HBD lounge which does not take ADRs. I agree about looking for last minute ADRs, but I would also check for ADR frequently starting now. People's plans do change, so ADRs do come open at unexpected times.

So, when I checked for HS just now 3 choices pulled. All of which said I had to call to reserve or search for other times. Is this MDE funkiness? Trying to book at midnight? Phantom reservations? Boo either way!

Keep checking. Things do open up. My kids are going down Sept 24 to Sept 30th and there was a lot of openings on the weekend if you keep checking.

Last year I got 8am Tusker House at 24 hours.

Sign back in! That happened to me when I tried to cancel some things. But when I signed it it let me do it!

Yes! Serial checking most of the afternoon just now yielded 50's Primetime at 4:10pm which will be early, but perfect! I will need to be out of the heat and if we eat brunch before getting to the park it will work fine, fine.

Snagged a Chef de France at 5pm for Wednesday. That will be good.

Still really, really hoping to take DD to CRT for breakfast the morning before *surprise!* Gramma arrives. What a day it would be! Cinderella for breakfast, Gramma arriving in the afternoon, first time on Soarin' (she's tall enough finally!), and her first concert. It's going to be an amazing day no matter if the reservation works out. But I'm hoping for some pixie dust.

I happen to be perusing MDE and viola my dining reservations. The one that I thought I had gotten for DHS? NOT ON THE RIGHT DAY AT ALL!!! So, back to square one. Good grief!
