Hi all,

My daughter & I are booked on the Aug. REPO Cruise in a GTY Cat 10.

Do you think there is a chance we will be upgraded? Believe it or not, it's our first time and we both celebrate birthdays during the cruise!!

Are upgrades VERY rare?? :wave2:

Thanks for your opinion.

Eileen & Christine

Hi...we are on the repo as well and one can always hope....but don't be disappointed if it does not happen.

On the other hand....GTY's do seem to get upgraded a bit more than assigned rooms so there is always a chance!!!

BTW....I live right across the river in Rockland!!!

:goodvibes :goodvibes

How cool! Neighbors :)

Have you cruised Disney before? I can't believe how this cruise has taken on a life of it's own!!

We are really surprised at the COST! Everytime we read the cruise boards we realize we need to budget more money for this trip. :earseek: It's a little scary but VERY exciting too....

Upgrades are less likely on DCL than other cruise lines .. seems that DCL sails much fuller than other ships .. go figure ;) .. anyway, there doesn't really seem to be any formula to who gets upgraded .. folks who have been upgraded include those that have booked early, booked last minute, requested a specific room, booked GTY, been assigned a room already, book a low category, booked a high category, etc.

And with the popularity of the repo cruises, I'm not holding my breath that any of us will be upgraded.

Upgrades are VERY rare on DCL and don't be suprised if you don't get one. We booked a GTY 6 on the 7/9/05 West Coast cruise and just got out stateroom number, a category 6.

Disneyfamily2005: You say that these 20 rooms are handed out based on when you booked. Can you tell me how far in advance you booked yours? We booked a May 2006 cruise 18 months ahead, so we might have a slightly better chance than average for an upgrade.

I'm on that cruise too. Its my wifes 25th wedding anniversary and I'll be celebrating my 25th anniversary too (small world isn't it :rotfl2: ), and we've been on many DCL cruises.

I wonder if we'll get an upgrade. Nah - not going to happen - even with "all of the people" cancelling their cruise now that it's getting to the pay up or get out dates (we'll see lots of availability the week of June 15).

No ones been able to determine a patern / system for who gets upgraded. DCL has done a surpurb job of keeping it very random (or those that have figured it out aren't sharing) pirate:

Hello,we booked our cruise about 5 mins after they announced that the Disney Magic was coming to the west coast, matter of fact I had to argue with my travel agent the day before, she didnt believe me when I told about it coming to california, anyways she called at 8:00 am May 04,2004 and was put on hold until they made the announcement.we leave tommorow may 28th 1st cruise out of california

We took our first DCL cruise summer of 2003. It was the 3 night so I didn't bother to book a veranda room. Just something basic- an outside cabin for 4 people. We received an upgrade via a phone call from our TA while we were staying at WDW. It was a very pleasant surprise. We received a great veranda room with the bath and a half. I loved the room - wouldn't have paid that price for the veranda for only 3 nights but it was a nice upgrade. Now if it was a 7 night cruise I think a veranda is in order.

We've always booked a category 7 room. Our first cruise we were upgraded to a category 4  , the second year to a category 6 :cool1: and last year we got our category 7 :goodvibes . We'll just have to wait and see what we get this year! Each time we had an assigned room number for a category 7. When we got an upgrade we were informed at the resort of the change. It's always nice to get an upgrade, but we were very happy with the category 7 room.

Sorry, that cracked me up... :rotfl:

I would just be excited about the cruise and not worry about an upgrade; it would be a shame to be disappointed at such a happy time. All the rooms on the ships are nice and you're going to have a wonderful cruise. You'll learn your way around and see what you like for a possible next time. (Think about re-booking onboard to get some nice discounts).

Our first cruise we were in a Cat 11 (5513, loved it) and our twins celebrated their 6th birthday on the ship. Our second we booked a Cat 5 as a special treat after my cancer journey. Next year we are booked again in a Cat 11, figuring the money we save may help pay for a quick trip to WDW in the fall to celebrate my mother's birthday (which would be her first trip). We may try to upgrade at the port (which is cheaper if rooms are available) but our friends will be across the hall from us so if we can't it'll be fine. We'll have a great time no matter what room we're in.

Enjoy your cruise!! :boat:
P.S. We also met up with a group of Dis-ers on the ship and it was a lot of fun!

We were GTY on the Eastbound cruise and when to 90 day point arrived they assigned us our room. No upgrade, just what we booked. At the same time they did have a bunch of rooms available that were sold pretty quickly.

I suggest that the magic 60 day point is happening real soon. Check frequently for stateroom availability since I'm sure there will be cancelations before there are penalties. So, if you want a higher cat. this may be your opportunity.

And even though my present address is VT, I am a native NJ person - lived there 59 years. I could see the the VZ across the bay.

:cheer2: We were upgraded for our october 2000 cruise. However this was because after we booked they changed the disney magic to a 7 night cruise, and so we were moved onto the wonder and had our dates changed. I think upgrades because of birthdays etc would be very rare, and would only happen if the ship has some room types that have been requsted more and therefore some passangers have been upgraded.

I am assuming someone was just upgraded to my room 8084 for the Wonder May 29th-June 2nd 2005. We were unable to go, because of my fathers death the day before we were to leave. I like to think it is empty, but I know someone else is enjoying it.

Thanks, he will be greatly missed. He was a WWII Veteran (Marine)and had a wonderful cerimony with military honors. He will never be forgotten.

Welcome - Even1 --

Our house is about 6 mins. from Stews :cool1:

This will be our 4th DCL cruise :Pinkbounc

Stumbled across this thread for goodness knows what reason, found all this old home stuff, having grown up in Fairfield Cty and driving across the Tappan Zee to Grandma's in Haverstraw (don't laugh, without towns like Haverstraw someplace good might end up the dregs of the county). Moved south 16 years ago, lost grandma 18 years ago, but never lost stew's--have always gone to the original mother-ship in Norwalk -- do they have petting zoo's out in fron of the other locations? Even when Stew got convicted and did Federal racketeering time, still liked his store, where the Paul Newman brand products got their start. As for the Tap, I swear one of my earliest memories is from the high end on the Westchester side, looking down from the back seat of my mother's car and thinking that the road went down under the water.

Yes, a funny question for those who have spent some time at the boards to ask mmouse37 if she has sailed DCL before, but everyone was a relative newbie at some point. And my only upgrade was on something booked just 60 days in advance as a GTY, got a specific room # in my GTY category three days later, then got the upgrade from an 8 to a 5 at the 30 day mark. And we didn't like the 5 so much, we missed having the steamer trunk which wasnt in 7132, and the solid wall made the verandah seem frustrating--decided we would not pay for a solid wall, which would include 7's, on future cruises, and we have been back to our usual happy cat. 8 since, and will be again next year.
