I know there is a homeschool chat but thought I might get more answers here with out having to go through that whole thread.

What are the requirements to homeschool in NC? (we are currently in Florida and it isn't too difficult)

Do you have any good links with information for me?

We are probably going to relocate so I want to research now.

Thanks a ton!!

Not sure where you're relocating to in NC, but where we live (Charlotte area) is a great area for homeschoolers---tons of activities and support groups.

To homeschool all you need to do is send in the notice of intent. Beware of some of the information on the state's non-public education website, not all of it as accurate as to what constitutes acceptable homeschooling (they add in extra rules that aren't in the state laws).

Other than the notice of intent, you just have to do a standardized test once a year and keep the results on file, along with immunization records. Until your child turns 7, you don't need to do anything at all.

Feel free to pm if you have any questions. A friend of mine is on the board of NCHE and is a great resource too.

Don't forget you need to keep attendance. Now, they "suggest" how many days a year, but there is not law on how many. You just need to show that they have been schooling.

We are in the charlotte area also, and it is a huge homeschooling area. I hear raleigh/durham is another hot spot.

dis-happy, where are you located? are you part of any groups?
