Any home remedies for fever blisters?

I've been sick and as a result have a huge fever blister on my top lip that hurts.

Any old home remedies anyone knows about. I'm embarassed to go out of the house with this thing.

Dietary supplement called Lysine....I start taking them in massive amounts as soon as I feel one start to form. 3 or 4 tablets at least 3 times a day for the first day. Then a couple every day until it's gone.

Also to ease the pain I found Milk of Magnesia at the top of the bottle it usually forms a thick paste at the neck. You can rub that on thick and it will help dissolve the blisters. Use warm water to soak it off if you have to go out.

If you at $16 abreva over the counter meds works pretty good too.

The Milk of Magnesia thing sounds interesting and I think I have some. Thanks I'm going to try it. To late to stop it as its already grown and brought friends, LOL! Dissolving the blisters would be heavenly!

Not a home remedy, but...

Call your doctor (the dentist can prescribe this) and get Valtrex pills (if you have rx insurance - it's $$$$!) ... Acylovir (sp, brand name is Zovirax) is a less expensive alternative. Zovirax comes in pills or ointment. The pills work VERY quickly.

I USED TO GET THEM ALL THE TIME , BUT SINCE I STARTED EATING YOGURT AND TAKING ACIDOPHILUS CAPSULES I HAVEN'T HAD ANY IN OVER A YEAR!

I have had fever blisters (herpes, thank you very much) for as long as I can remember.
When I was in Elementary school the constant joke was "Who hit you?". Then later it went to "You have herpes!!". My response - "Yeah, but not THAT kind".
Now as an adult it is "I have them too, what do you use?".
Anyway, I have used Acylovir since it came out probably 20 years ago or more. I keep it w/ me always! At the very first tingle I start downing these babies- 4 at a time. Then it never comes up. Lifesaver!
Now is probably too late to start taking them, but I would get a prescription next time you were at the Dr.
I have not gotten on one in several months -knocking on wood.
