First, I will be renting a car for the first time in WDW and my insurance company here at home says I just need to take my own insurance card and I don't need anything that the rental car company offers. Sound right to all of you?
Second and my main question: I have been trying to research trip insurance. I know I can get the DVC insurance for $89 per use year. I have heard that outside insurance such as insuremytrip.com doesn't deal with timeshares. I would have enough time if my trip had to be cancelled to bank the points --October use year--going in january--have until May to bank (from what I understand--this is my first DVC trip). So what exactly would the insurance cover? Airfare? Maintenance dues? Just not sure how this works. Anyone that could give me some insight would be appreciated. Anyone have to ever use the insurance? TIA!:confused3

I always buy the car rental insurance for peace of mind. I don't want to worry about something happening to the car while trying to enjoy my vacation. You are covered for anything, even if it is your fault.
As far as trip insurance I never get that.

I prefer to buy the car rental insurance but yes your home policy will cover it.

As to the insurance offered by DVC, not sure what it cover, but would think Member Services would be able to help with that.

As to the other insurance such Insure My Trip, they only cover timeshare rentals, not owners.

Thanks guys. I think if the home car insurance pays for it, I won't spend any more money than I am already. I will call MS and see what they say. Wasn't sure if they were going to try to sell me something that may not cover my needs. Hopefully they will go over all that with me. :)

Most credit cards also cover car rental on a secondary basis. So if you are in an accident, your policy pays above the deductible and the credit card picks up the deductible.

I'm not aware of anyone who covers timeshare owners from a trip insurance perspective - but would love to hear if anyone knows of anyone.

I don't do trip insurance unless cruising. I ALWAYS do it for a cruise. Heaven forbid someone were to get really sick during that week and need airlift off the boat, I don't want to deal with that after cost.
