Any Hamiltonians out there?

We are thinking of moving to Hamilton Ontario and are in the process of doing some research. Anyone with strong opinions either way? I know one positive is we will be closer to Buffalo airport for cheaper flights to WDW.

I was born and raised on the Hamilton Mountain, East mountain just near Mohawk and Upper Sherman.
I now live in Mount Hope, which is about 15 minutes outside of Hamilton, and we really like it here.
I was walking distance to Limeridge mall central to everything. Where are you thinking of moving?
And yes it is really close to the BUF airport.

Thanks for your reply, we are visiting different neighbourhoods now (never actually been to Hamilton before just passed by on the QEW) so it should be interesting. We are looking at the Limeridge Mall surrounding areas, Hamilton West and Mountain. We want to be handy for the GO.

I lived in Hamilton all my life and mousy we lived on Stone Church Rd near Upper Gage and Sherman for the past 13 years until DH retired last year and we're now out in Simcoe and loving the peace and quiet country life. I never thought I'd want to leave the city as I was born and raised in Hamilton and lived there for 49 years BUT I got tired of the city life.

If you want to live in a city that's not as "harried" as Toronto then Hamilton would be the place to choose!

There's also a few DIS'ers who I've had the pleasure of meeting and having lunch with at Limeridge Mall here that would also be able to help you......ok ladies where are ya?

Hi Mousy, I grew up in Stoney Creek and my parents live in Binbrook now which is not far from Mount Hope

I was born and raised in Stoney Creek and went to school in Hamilton. We moved ( DH and I) after university because we both got jobs that took us out of the city. Housing is a lot cheaper there and we have seriously been thinking about moving back with the little one on the way. However that would make DH commute way too long. Its nice in certain area's . The North end is not nice, I wouldnt want my worst enemy to live in that area.

I also live in Mount Hope (just outside of Hamilton) It is a very nice area to live and is convenient to buffalo for those cheap flights down to Orlando. I also take the GO to get to work in downtown Toronto. If the reason you are looking for Mountain is to get to the GO train, if you are going to go to Aldershot or Burlington stations, I would also recommend looking here in Mount Hope, with the new highway 6 extension right around the corner the commute to the train station is the same as when I was living in Hamilton at the Stone Church & Upper Paradise area. They are currently building here in the new subdivision if you were looking to purchase a brand new home. The website for the agent for the builder out here is www.stjeanhomes.com

On the East Mountain near Upper Gage and Mohawk. Walking distance again to Limeridge Mall. With all of us who lived in that area we probably passed each other everyday! There must be something in the air that made us Disney nuts!

I now live on the Binbrook/Mt Hope border.. Cass where are you parents? I am just down from the Glanbrook Arena?

I went to Barton. Graduated in 1994. Did OAC 1995. My parents still live in the Lawfield Arena area.

LOL Mickey Fanatic my DS graduated from Barton 7 years ago and also attended Richard Beasley school and Lawfield, and I used to work at Vern Ames. It really is a small world isn't it?

DH and I were also on the executive of Berrisfield Community Council which was right behind Barton high and served about 800 kids and adults who played ball there.

Hi! Another Hamiltonian!

I live on the edge of Hamilton..right near Stoney Creek. Been in either one all my life.

If you need to commute, Hamilton is a good starting point because even if you can't get the 3 trains that leave out of Hamilton's Go station in the morning you can drive your car to Aldershot or Burlington to get more options of train times.

Our bus system isn't bad either. I dont think we get the same bang for our buck like you do on the TTC but we still get around pretty darn good. (this coming from a girl who doesn't drive)

I couldn't tell you about leaving out of Buffalo, I've never done it. I normally travel during the snowy season and I don't ever want to try and drive their or fly out of Buffalo in anything close to Winter.

This is nuts! My sister went to Vern Ames and all three of us played baseball at Berrisfield for about 13 years. My parents also coached and served on the executive.

My sisters graduated Barton in 95 and 97! Your son was probably just behind my youngest sister.

Could you PM me with your parents' names as I probably know them? DS played at Berrisfield from the ages of 7 through 18 and umpired too for many years.DH also coached for all those years too.I ran the good old snack hut. I miss all the good times we had there.

I went to Cardinal Newman (the old one on Hwy 20) and grade school was joan of Arc and Sir Francis Xavier. I used to hang out at East Gate square!

Mousy, my parents lived on Binbrook Road east, just down from the corner store They are getting older though and recently moved, my sister has a house just behind fortinos on Hwy20.

To add to the small world, I grew up near the Fortino's on 20 Highway, only way back then it was country land! There were no houses anywhere!!! We were original builders on Highland Road, and I went to school with a lot of kids from Binbrook because we were all bussed out to Winona High. I lived in Hamilton for a while, but settled in Burlington for the last 20 years. My husband is from the West Mountain though, and my mom still lives in our orignal house. I think it's all a great area with lots of opportunity & easy commutes (I work in Oakville). But, yeah, the north end & down near Dofasco/Stelco can be a little stinky (I used to work at Dofasco)...lol

We were born and raised in Hamilton but moved north after college. We go to Hamilton about 6 times a year to visit family and shop.

I liked living in Hamilton because it was easy to travel to Toronto and Buffalo.

Other than that - what else is good about it besides location? Gage Park? Hamilton Beach? Is the new Art Gallery any good?

Since I didnt mention it before, I went to Sherwood HS and I went to Mount Albion for k-8. Its crazy how much its built up where the Fortino's is at HWy 20. I remember when it was nothing at all but 4 empty fields.
