Any hair color experts?

I'm tired of my hair color and don't know what to do. It is naturally light brown, but I have been highlighting it for 7 years (at home). The highlights have gotten too light, so I decided to try to dye it to a shade in-between my natural color and the highlights, hoping to have less of a contrast (shade: dark neutral blonde). The shade that came out was a little redder than what I expected, but not horrible.

Now my roots are starting to show again, and I don't know what to do. My goal is light brown, with dark golden blonde highlights. Can I get there without going to a salon? And if I do have to go to a salon, will I have to keep going to maintain it?

This is a tough one. You need to get someone's opinion who knows you well but can be very honest with you. Most people are so used to seeing their hair every day in the mirror they don't realize that it is out-of-date or too over-the-top in color.

I would suggest going to a salon that comes recommended by someone; don't just go in cold. I pay to have beautiful sunny highlights put in my hair because I am afraid of doing it on my own and getting to just where you are.

Anyone else??

I had a feeling I should suck it up and just go to the salon. I know a good one already, just the cost seems a little high to me.

Luckily I can count on my sister to be brutally honest about everything. Believe me, she doesn't hold back! :rotfl2:
