and how crowded should i expect the first party to be?

i want to get my tickets asap since its a key part of our trip.

Sept 2? 2 years ago it was labor day and it was a bust. but i think being on a Friday of a holiday weekend it will be a little busier

Depends on the price - close to last year's and it will be a mob scene. Wildly increased and it will likely feel a little lighter in crowds, although not empty since it's pre-Labor Day.

Just keep informed. When the tickets go on sale get them. Don't wait. They won't sell out it minutes.

We are going this year to get the magic shots from HM. Crowds won't be an issue. They learned from Villians at HS. At least I hope the did.

Depends what you mean by crowded. Generally there are 2 types of party crowds.. 1 which is most likely what the first day will be is everyone coming to see the new show, parade, and enjoy the atmosphere. Generally includes all bloggers and press.. It will feel PACKED but nobody will be on the rides.. Other days, it will be the rides that are packed and so many people waiting in line, just walking around will feel empty...

It's a roll of the dice what type of night you'll end up with but first party is the press day to get in and see it so they can talk about it.9

The plus side, there is no previous party that might have had horrible weather for them to give out free tickets to the next party...

Last year they were on sale April 8th.
Here it is the 26th and we don't even know how much the tickets are?!?!
We know dates but they haven't even announced prices ..............
That's not good.
I think they are testing the waters with these Before and After Events for price points.
Maybe ticket prices won't jump but I am expecting it and waiting to book a trip until I know.
We normally do two parties, but last years were so crowded ..... price will determine if I do one.

Maybe if they increase the price, they will lower the number of tickets being sold. At least that's what I'm hoping. Parties were very crowded last year.

These are the threads from last year where DISers posted their experiences. I think they had some issues at the beginning with not enough staffing or staff not trained sufficient in proper procedures for moving non-paying guests out of MNSSHP. But, later it wasn't a problem, so I'm hoping they learned from least year and will have the parties properly staffed and trained from the get-go this year.

Here is the official thread from last year with reports starting around page 130:

Here is another thread from last year that focused on the early parties:

They are analyzing every bit of data that they have, including the number and how fast tickets sold for the current after hours events, to ensure that they don't over price, or under price the events. No doubt the price will go up, but by how much is the big question.

I've budgeted $100 per person for it. We will be going regardless so I'm not going fidget about a price increase. It is curious as to what's the delay.

But, will they sell the same number of tickets they did last year? Or will they increase the price sufficiently that they can cap it, along the lines of other more "exclusive" experiences? That's what I'm dying to know. If the rumors are true that they're only increasing 10%, then I would imagine they won't lower the number of tickets up for sale. But, if they really do go to $100 pp, then maybe they will lower the number of tickets available.

i paid $84 with tax per person for MVMCP in december so $15-$20 more would not make me not go to MNSSHP because i have never experienced it and want to go.
however if i'm gonna end up paying like $150 to go then i may just add another day onto my regular ticket and go to MK during the day that day.

i'm glad to hear that the first party tends to have a lot of press vs a lot of regular guests because while i do want to experience the party aspects i do also enjoy short lines.

If you have never gone and not buying a number of tickets, yes by all means you should go and experience it. I love all aspects of the party itself, I think it's way better than MVMCP.

For me, having gone twice a year for a decade and having to buy multiple tickets for our family, then price does matter since I would rather spend that money on something else given we have been so many times and the crowd levels have impacted my value.

Note that many of the parties sell out or close to, many of them day of. I haven't been to an empty party in probably 6 years. And while much less than a regular FULL day, it could very well be equal to a regular slower day. Things like PP and 7DMT usually still have close to normal lines. The plus is no FP+ line slowing it down. I just wouldn't go in expecting to walk on rides, those days are gone. If a purpose is rides then this After Hours event is a much greater value.

idk if i'll feel the same way as you do about it being better than MVMCP since my family is obsessed with christmas and we absolutely love MVMCP.
and during MVMCP in december 2015 we found the lines to be longer than 2013 and 2007 but still not bad so i really don't think "long lines" will be an issue for us.

LOVE HALLOWEEN and CHRISTMAS.

For me at MVMCP there is a great parade and good fireworks but overall the park looks like any other night that time of year. We go once every few years.

For Halloween they change the look of the castle and park with lighting and use smoke and it has a completely different atmosphere than other nights. We met way more special characters and the Hocus Pocus show was outstanding. Has been worth paying for two each year.

No surprise some will like one vs the other. Enjoy.
