Please, someone tell me something about this flu that will help me get through this day at work. I'm back after missing Monday and Tuesday though DD is still very sick; very mild fever but the congestion and coughing is still very bad... :guilty: I hate being here and want to be home with her, but DH is home today with her and there was really no reason for me to stay, when all I'd do is sit next to her bed and watch her sleep...

Tell me about your short, quick illnesses; tell me that you (or someone you know) had it and is fine now...? :sad1:

My dd had the flu back in June. She was very sick, with a fever of 104 for days and coughing and congestion for alittle more than a week. We did not have a confirmed H1N1 test but the doc was confident that it was that.
She's fine now :)

Your dd will be back to herself soon

Last week my DS tested positive for the seasonal flu. He had vomiting, high fever and body aches for a day. The doctor gave him Tamiflu and the next day he was fine. He was complaining that he couldn't go to school.

My kids just had the flu (who knows what variety--they don't test) and got over it in record time. One child ran a fever for two days and the other was better in a single day. It was very mild. My kids were also complaining about missing school.

5th grade DD's best friend had a confirmed case back at the end of August (when they were still testing around here). DD got sick soon after that, and I'm sure that's what she had. She was never very ill and is fine now. :goodvibes

I just had some sort of sickness.. flu? swine flu? not sure for 2 days I prayed for death on and off. Today I'm find except for this cough! I have been coughing so much my back hurts.. My 4 yr old has/had the same thing as me.. he got quicker much faster and will see the dr today to make sure he's okay to go back to school.. I'm one of those mean mom's that keep their sick kids home.

The good news around here is that our family has not gotten it, yet (knocks on wood).

Sorry to hear your DD is sick & I hope she is better soon. My friend's 9 year old was sick all last week w/a fever, cough & other cold like symptoms. My friend called the doctor's office & got an appt. to have the child looked at. They did a strep test but no flu tests. The child did not have strep, so the dr. said it is probably swine flu but they weren't testing for it. The child missed school all last week & the fever ended Fri. The child is back in school & seems fine. Now my friend is waiting to see of her other children get it....

All 6 of us have gotten it, starting 4 weeks ago or so. DD16 just started this weekend, so still home sick. Everyone else is better (or just a touch of cough lingering). I am over 2 weeks past acute illness, but every couple of days get a slight fever again. I assume my body is still fighting the last bits of virus (a fever is your own body's reaction, really).

My kids are struggling through it right now. DS is about done but DD is a little behind him as she got it on Monday and he started on Saturday. He ran a high fever, upset stomach and now has a very bad cough. She has not had a fever just very sleepy and body aches along with an upset tummy. Not near as bad as some have said. More like a really bad cold. The doctor did not test but said it was more than likely the piggy flu and also said that if DH and I did not come down with it within 48 hours, then we were probably ok this round. I hope so as we are supposed to leave with no children to celebrate our 20th this Sunday. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I was diagnosed with it 3 weeks ago. Was sick for a good week. I have several underlying medical problems that make me high risk, including asthma, high blood pressure, pseudotumor cerebri, a shunt in my head and have had 4 strokes ( at the ripe old age of 33), I am fine. I was given Tamiflu. After getting over the flu symptoms that had me in bed for a week, I was weak for several days afterward, but am completely fine now.

Our drs here are not giving Tamiflu to healthy people, saying treat the symptoms of cough, fever, aches. I received the Tamiflu and cough meds because of my history and also told to take Ibuprofen every 4-6 hrs for fever.

Darsa,
I saw your story on the flu vaccine thread. I'm sorry your DD is ill. I'm sure your dh is taking good care of her, so try not to worry today.

I had the regular old flu several years ago. It ended up turning into pnemonia and I was pretty sick for a few weeks. I did get better once I was put on a heavy dose of antibiotics and steroids. I have asthma, so that didn't help matters. Ever since then, we all get flu shots in our home.

We can't seem to find an H1N1 vaccine around here and that flu has hit hard in our neck of the woods. 10 kids have come down with it in my youngest ds's class. Because ds also has asthma I'm concerned.

About 2 weeks ago, oldest ds and I did get some kind of flu. I'm not sure if it was H1N1 or not. We both had fevers, chills, body aches, hacking coughs and were exhausted for a few days. But we seemed to bounce back quickly. I'm not sure if the regular flu shot helped speed up our recovery or not. I still have a cough, but it is just an annoying little cough now.

I'll say a prayer for your dd. I hope she gets better soon.

I talked to her school a little while ago, apologizing because I flaked on calling them about her being out today, and they told me that they didn't expect to see her before next week! They've been recommending that the kids who are showing symptoms (apparently there have been several the past couple of days, since DD's been out) are being asked to stay home for a full week. So, she'll miss the Halloween Dance :( On the bright side, her boyfriend said if she was going to miss it he'd come over and watch movies with her. He's so sweet, that kid. :D I'm sad because I was going to dress them both up as zombies and was looking forward to that. Now I have all this theatrical blood, and nothing to do with it! Hmmm, maybe I'll dress myself up for Saturday... ;)

Just be sure to watch for any relapse in your daughter. That seems to be the big thing with H1N1 -- people that are getting better and then suddenly get really sick. If that happens, make sure that you daughter is seen by a doctor ASAP.

Mine was mild compared to many others I've heard and read about, and today is the best I've felt in a week. Each day gets a little better.

Hope your DD gets better quick!

My entire family had H1N1 in June. I tested positive for it, and then the rest of the family dropped like flies. The good news was that it was nowhere near as bad as the media made it out to be. I was in bed for 1 day, but after that, things were pretty much back to normal. My kids each had a high fever for a day, but then were over the fever. The coughing and upper respiratory stuff didn't last too long, either.

The hardest part was quarantining ourselves at the beginning of summer. However, we voluntarily closed ourselves away from society so as not to infect the neighbors.

It really wasn't bad, and it moved very quickly.
