Any good coffee in the Disney Universe?

Hi all...

I've been searching the posts and while I've found alot of useful information and tidbits about the World since my last visit (over 16 years ago), I haven't been able to find anything about one of my habits...namely, finding a good cup of coffee/latte'/cappucino. Unfortunately, I don't consider Starbucks to be that great and am looking for something that isn't national-chain, pre-measured, pushbutton-operated.

Any suggestions in any of the resorts...something preferable with good people-watching as well. I'm going to be WDW resort hopping the moderates starting this weekend for a few days before an offsite work conference so would like to be able to relax this way.

Thanks...

Too Funny!!! I'm from Canada and when I brought my daughter there last year for a week I couldn't find any good coffee (used to Tim Hortons) - so needless to say when my husband picked us up at the airport after our trip all I said to him was "love you, missed you, take me to a Tim Hortons!!!" HA HA.... We're going back in a few weeks (my daughter and I) and so I'll be watching this thread! Unfortunatley, last time and this time I am not getting a rental car so WDW coffee is all I can have!!!!! Not even a Starbucks unless there is one at a park somewhere or downtown Disney! :rotfl:

I am not a coffee drinker but I've heard people rave about Kona Coffee at the Polynesian. It's on the second floor right next to the Kona cafe and definitely not a national chain. ;)

I haven't found good coffee onsite except Kona Cafe and restaurants at the Dolphin & Swan which are Starwood properties.

Kona Cafe at the Poly has great coffee. We always go there at least once for breakfast so we can have the "good" coffee in the world. They do have a counter cart that serves just coffee if you don't want breakfast.

the virgin megastore in downtown disney has a coffee bar that's pretty decent - no different than you usually find at a music/bookstore i guess.

The only coffee in all of Disney my husband will drink is the kona coffee at the Polynesian. He hates all the other resort coffee.

Being from Seattle myself, I had a hard time w/ the lack of good coffee or espresso in the entire orlando area. The Kona at the poly is wonderful, but if you are in a park this does not help you. I have been told that each park now has at least one espresso style cart or window w/ a variety of coffee drinks. We shal see in March if they are up to Seattle standards :drinking1

Rudegrle - as Seattle born and bred myself, I can relate to your frustration with the coffee at WDW ;) So far the best I've tasted is Kona at the Poly, the African Shade grown at Animal Kingdom, and of course Starbucks at Swan/Dolphin. Still the special microbrews of coffee, small lots, handroasted and pulled with care, not there.... The hardest part is weaving through and avoiding the Nescrappe at the parks.

There is a post about this on the Restaurants forum with suggestions of where to find "real" coffee in the World, or as real as any of it gets.

Good luck!

If you're in Epcot, try the coffee kiosk that is right outside of Universe of Energy. It's a small, stationary square type structure. They have very good coffee, hot, cold and frozen. I'll go all the way from the WS to get that coffee! :goodvibes

Starbucks in the Dolphin/Swan, and the GREAT coffee across from the front desk in the CR!! :drinking1

Bring your own for the coffee maker, perhaps?

My DH loves his instant and I love herbal tea so I'll be packing our electric kettle on our next trip so we can have what we like in our travel mugs.

The coffee bar that is right near Kona cafe is great. My wife and I loved the coffee they had there. I can't stand the coffee they leave in those little packets for you in the room, it just doesn't taste that good. I'm sort of a coffee buff and I know a good cup of java when I get one. The Kona cafe and the coffee bar next to it are some of the best! Enjoy!!

There is a little stand outside in the Italy section of World Showcase. They serve espresso drinks--hot and cold. My frozen mocchacino was excellent.

Thanks, everybody, for your comments...looks like my first stop will be the Kona Cafe' at the Poly (though I'm hoping the Port Orleans will attempt a decent chicory coffee for Mardi Gras)!

Can't believe I'll finally be back at WDW after so many years!!!!
