We will be taking our 1st trip in August and we would like to take the kids to the ocean, does anyone know a good spot?

Try the Outer Banks - specifically certain locations on Hatteras or the northern beaches (Duck, Corolla). KDH, KH and Nags Head are congested but get off the beaten track and they're not.

Chincoteague also very nice -- Assateague is the national park with the beach ... haven't been there in the summer so not sure about crowds-- went in Sept. and loved it.

We love Anna Maria Island, FLA. Don't tell anyone though, it's so quiet and not touristy yet at all:love:
Lot's of rental homes that are literally right on the beach. A few hotels.
Anna Maria is in the Tampa Bay area.

Although I haven't been there yet, our family is planning a trip to St. George's Island in FL this summer. I've heard that the beaches are beautiful and very quiet.

Have a nice trip!

Santa Rosa beach Florida. It's on 30A between Destin and Panama City. While Destin and Panama City get crowded, the beaches in Santa Rosa tend to not be anywhere near as crowded. There's still plenty to do within a short drive and the water is emerald green and the sand is nice, white powder.

Thanks, keep them coming. I really just wanted to get back on here this time to see if I could get my little counter to work (lol)!

And it don't work, how do you all do that?

We went to Tybee Island last year...outside of Savannah, GA and we loved it!
It was less crowded than nearby Hilton Head...nice and clean. It had that "small-town" feel, but was still close to activities. We were amazed at how far we could go out and still be only to our waist. Also, there is a tide pool that runs along the beach that little ones were playing in. It was great!

Jekyl Island, GA was another nice beach, but we haven't been there in years, so I don't know how it is now...
Hope this helps...

St Simon Island, Jekyll Island--both in southern Georgia are beautiful. Amelia Island, Fl wins awards (there is a beautiful Ritz Carlton there) and is very peaceful and unspoiled. It's just north of Jacksonville.

Here's a link for Amelia Island. The town of Fernandina Beach is so cute! http://www.ameliaisland.org/

I agree with this poster...the Outer banks are a fantastic, quiet, family beach experience. Its fabulous. Most people rent houses for a week there.

This is my favorite "getaway". It only takes me about 1 1/2hrs to get there & we love it...Stone Harbor NJ...It's quiet, you can always go to Wildwood (where yes it can be wild) or to Atlantic City or to Ocean City ( that's where we go to the boardwalk) but we just love to sit on our deck & relax.

Are you talking for a vacation or a stop along your way to your Disney vacation? If you are just stopping for a Hey- its the ocean- I love Flagler Beach. Its north of Daytona beach- just a little blip on the map. The town is small and you can pull up to the ocean and park the car on the side of the road. No crazy tourists- there were maybe 5 people on the beach and they have a pier you can walk out on.

Marco Island, Florida. You fly into Fort Myers (RSW) and drive about 45 minutes south along the Gulf Coast. It's the last inhabited island before you get to the Everglades.

There are only 3 hotels on the island, and everything else is houses and hi-rise condos. All the vacation-home owners won't be there because it's off-season. And like I said, since there are only 3 hotels, there aren't many transient visitors.

Other than a few restaurants and a movie theater where they serve dinner during the movie, there's very little to do there. A nice place to spend a relaxing time. ANd the sunsets are beautiful.

Hilton Head Island, SC. Its a great family beach, nice and quiet and the pace is slow. We tried Jekell Island once and it was horrible for us. The hotel we were at didnt even have access to the beach because there were huge rocks on the beach area (booked on the internet). It was run down and dirty and nothing to do/no where much to eat in my opinion.

If you want to head East.....BLOCK ISLAND, RHODE ISLAND. It is just beautiful and called the "Bermuda of the North".

Assuming you are going to WDW and want to take a quick 1 day trip to the beach...

My Family takes a day to go to the beach as well. Last 3 times we went to Ormond Beach just North of Daytona.

There's a Public Park there called Bicentinial Park, on A1A, with Rest Rooms and an outdoor shower. http://volusia.org/parks/bicent.htm
:beach:

We park there and cross A1A (traffic is not bad) the Beach is pretty vacant and there's a Lifegaurd Tower near by too. There are no cars on this beach either. We have a blast. :thumbsup2

Takes about an Hour 10 minutes to get there from Orlando. :drive:
