Any good book suggestions?

Anything by Jodi Picoult. Fascinating writer that puts characters in situations that make you think about your own values.... but also fast, fascinating reads. Especially good/haunting (if you liked Lovely Bones...) are Salem Falls, and Keeping Faith. Plain Truth was just plain neat.

Another interesting writer is Minette Walters. One of her books, called Dark something, was amazing.

And yet another rather obscure writer is Jane Stanton Hitchcock.

You like comedy, you like sci-fi - I'm guessing you've already read "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams. If not, get to it!

I'd also highly recommend "Sewer, Gas & Electric" and "Fool on the Hill" by Matt Ruff. Sizeable, but VERY odd and funny.
