Any good book suggestions?

I'm in the mood for a good, light-hearted, relaxing book, possibly with some comedy. Something easy to read.

I usually like fantasy, light sci-fi, and light mystery, all with good action, but right now I want something relaxing and light-hearted. And clean.

Any suggestions?

Good In Bed by Jennifer Weiner is a hilarious light read. It's about an overweight woman who's recently ex-boyfriend writes and article about dating & loving a larger woman.

" Jane Austen in Boca" I just started it, and it is a riot. I just finished "How to be a Chicana Role Model", also very funny , and Steven Cojacaru's (people magazine style reporter) Secrets of the Red Carpet . Happy Reading!!

I recently read "I Don't Know How She Does It: The Life of Kate Reddy, Working Mother" and it was GREAT!!! The short version is a working woman has a successful career and deals with all the changes life throws her way. I laughed out loud, and so much of it was so familiar to me.

I also love the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum books, and they are mostly clean (compared to some of the Nora Roberts type stuff I've read) and again make me laugh out loud.

How clean? Bad words? No romance? Have you ever read Terry Brooks, Magic Kingdom: For Sale? It's fantasy, but light and funny.

Also, I like Jeanne Ray's Julie and Romeo; also Step, Ball, Change. Light romance but not heavy down and dirty. Also, Must like Dogs - I think by Claire Cook.

The Devil wears Prada gets a bit crude and rude.

I read that one too.


Also I read the other one of hers too, with a shoe on the cover... something about sisters/shoes.. or if the shoe fits...

Just finished reading She's come undone by
Wally Lamb.. not exactly light reading though.. made the Nanny Diaries hilarious.


I just finished an interesting book called Swimming Lessons. Its about two women, and written in two different viewpoints. It was pretty predictable, but a nice one about friendship.

Just got out King of Torts by John Grisham... haven't read that one yet.

I'm also reading the Odyssey (for school) and Psychology (for school ) as well.

I just DEVOURED the Nanny Diaries and Good in Bed in less than 5 days Loved them so much, but I need more beach reading!

I would suggest both, though Good in Bed...when you say clean, what are you referring to?

When I say clean, I mean minimal bad language, nothing crude, and if romance goes beyond the hug, kiss, or holding hands stage, it's a "fade to black" instead of going into every groping detail. I don't like those types of romances, I feel like a peeping tom

Karel -- I have read Magic Kingdom for Sale/Sold and yes, that type of thing would fit what I'm looking for.

I often feel the same way about romance novels. I don't mind a good realistic relationship but I get bored with the heavy 'she touched his arm and an electic shock traveled straight to her heart. His warm arm stroked her..." type things.

Do you like Star Trek at all? I really enjoy William Shatner's series about Kirk.

I read Rise to Rebellion a novel about the American Revolution, then started reading the John Adam's Bio, that aint light.

Fortunately Harry Potter 5 showed up.

Good In Bed by Jennifer Weiner

I just read that, and got slightly annoyed by the thinly veiled reference to the crush that sounded like Adam Sandler(yeah, I know he just got married and I'm pathetic) . Anyway, it wasn't my fave. I recommend anything by Jane Green. It's light and fun.

I don't usually read any of her books, but someone gave me a Rosimund Pintcher (I totall butchered that name!) book called Winter Solstice.

Very nice story about two different generations' ups and downs from Engalnd to an old home in Scotland. It was great light reading.

not sure if you'd like it or not but a good book is "Confessions of a Shopoholic" I found the book hysterical and would read for hours at a time. I consider it an easy read.

But if you aren't into shopping...lol...you might not enjoy the book as much :laugh:

I can now recomment Holes by Louis Sachar because I just finished it. It is a children's book and I've been reading it to my kids for over a month now. I couldn't help myself tonight and finished it off by myself this evening. An adult should be able to read it quickly. Quite clever. I'm anxious to see the movie.

If you want some light but engrossing mystery adventures - try anything by Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child or Iris Johansen.

I have to echo the recommendations for Good in Bed and the Nanny Diaries.

I love all the Janet Evanovich books. They are light and easy to read. Great beach book because you can read 5 minutes, have a conversation and then get right back into it. I just finished the first Traveling Pants book. It's really a book I bought for my DD12 but was very enjoyable reading. I like to read alot of her books so that I know what shes reading.

Alot of times I just use Amazon.com to find interesting books. People rate them but also it will tell you if you liked that book maybe try this book. I've found alot of great books this way.

Howerver, I think you might want to start with A and work your way thru the alphabet. The last book out was Q and I am eagerly awaiting R!!!! They are great books....light, easy reading and a great mystery story line with out all the gushing romance. And the main character of all the books (which is an ongoing story) is none other than Kinsey Milhone a female PI. Hope this helps.

I forgot about that one.. I read that on Saturday. I had to preview before my son got to it. That was a very quick read for me. Most of Louis Sachars aren't that good IMO, but this was better.
