any fla. beaches compare to Myrtle beach

We go to Myrtle Beach every yr and would like to try a beach in Fla. Is there any beaches that are comparable to Myrtle beach as far as activities, dining, open air shopping (Broadway at the Beach or Barefoot Landing)?

Don;'t know Myrtle Beach (I'm from the UK), but have you looked into Naples - very lovely area down south on the gulf coast - it is around a 4 hour leisurely drive from Orlando, but well worth it.

It's a very classy, upmarket area, but with wonderful beaches, lovely shops, great restaurants.

But then again, any of the beaches we've been to in Florida have been nice for all the things you want - St Pete, Sand Key nr Clearwater, Marco Island nr Naples (my family's particular fave), Fort Myers . . . spoilt for choice really

Sorry, but I don't think any beach in the US is like MB, when it comes to the activities you've listed. Florida's Gulf Coast has white sandy beaches & water that looks like bath water compared to the water at MB. The Atlantic Coast beaches have sand & water similar to MB, until you get far south. In Miami, South Beach, is lively but not really family friendly. It's a different type of entertainment than MB provides. We do have beaches with activites, but not on the same scale as what your used to. If we're going to the beach for more than a couple nights, we go to MB too.

Fort Walton and Panama City would be more like Myrtle Beach than anything...but they're in the Panhandle and that's a good day's drive from here. Clearwater makes for a good day trip. It's a beautiful beach with some good dining, some arcades and sightseeing cruises but not a whole lot in the way of mini-golf or go-kart type attractions.

I don't think any beach in Florida compares to MB. My opinion you will find it more relaxing and laid back. I like MB but then I also like the quite beaches. Like other posted some of the beaches south of Florida not so family friendly. If any beach I would go with Clearwater.

I too agree the beaches in FL are not as "tourist developed" as Mrytle Beach. Though very nice, clean, and relaxing. You will of course find dining throughout the area's still. There's also shopping. It's just the whole ball of dining/shopping/entertainment right there-everywhere- you probably won't find.
