Just wondering if anyone has been to Paris or DLRP? I have read tonnes and made plans (i leave next Mon) but just curious if any fellow Canadian diser's have any tips or tricks for Paris.

We went in June to DLRP and Paris and loved it. We rented a car and drove to DLRP and stayed for 3 nights at the SL. From there we headed out to Normandy for 2 days and did a WW2 D-Day tour, visited Juno Beach and had a great time. We drove back to Paris and dropped the car off at CDG and took the AirFrance shuttle(25 euro's rt) to Arc de Triumph, which was great because our hotel was at the first stop before the Arc.

We used Priceline, bid on a 4 star in the Arc de Triumph area and got the LeMeriden for $145/night for the first 4 nights. We then added on another night and used Priceline again and got the Paris Hilton for $180/night, we ended up getting both hotels at 60% off the going rate on expedia and their own websites.

We bought passes for the hop on hop off bus on the second day in Paris after we walked for what seemed to be forever the first day, I would buy it immediately next time! The buses did a 2 hour loop around Paris and you could get on and off at all the major tourist spots. We also did a river cruise on our last night at dust and saw the Tower light up, it was pretty cool.

We had no "plans" in Paris other than to wing it. If we wanted a beer or a glass of wine in the afternoon, we stopped and had one. We ate when we were hungry and saw everything we wanted to this time and left somethings for next time.

Ask away if you have any questions???

I would so love to hear more about the trip. We were planning to go to DLP (and beyond) for our anniversary trip next year, with kid in tow of course. But the airfares are scaring us off ... we did Europe two and three years ago, but didn't pay anywhere near the kinds of sums that they're asking for now.

We have the advantage of being able to use some Marriott points it we need to at DLP, or for accommodation in Paris. (Though you were able to get marvelous deals on Priceline.)

When did you book airfare, and who with?

We used Air Canada for our flights. Our first plan was to go into Malaga Spain for 14 days for the sisters wedding. We then decided to switch our return out of Paris and spend 9 nights there. Our original cost was $1100/person, plus $450/person in taxes. When we switched our return in April prices were $399 per person each way from Saskatoon to Paris CDG plus taxes(sorry can't remember how much).

Also we booked when the flights became available, around 11 months out. We had a paranoid bridezilla who wanted us to book ASAP!
