I tried to search but the search function seems to be down. Both of these are coming up on Skyauction for my dates. I know Summer Bay is further away, but we will not be spending our entire visit at WDW. Also do they both have tile floors in the living and bedrooms? Which is a better choice? How far is Summer Bay from the TTC? TIA.

:::bump:::

looking for any comparisons of these two resorts...I've already posted in another thread....I can't seem to find much information at all about Summer Bay...

I stayed at Summer Bay last year and enjoyed it very much. It is located a couple of miles West of Orange Lake, near the intersection of Hwy 27 and 192.

I have not stayed at Silver Lake, but I have stayed at Vistana, Orange Lake and Westgate. The units are all very similar regardless of the resort. Summer Bay had a king bed in the master bedroom with a jacuzzi tub and seperate shower in the bath. The second bedroom had 2 queen beds. Full kitchen, diningroom, living room, balcony/patio etc.

I would rate Summer Bay slightly below Orange Lake, but above Westgate. The one big plus of Summer Bay over Orange Lake, is that you are within walking distance to at least a couple of different pools reguardless of which unit you are in. If you have kids, Summer Bay also has a kids splash area with fountains, water guns and a water slide.

thanks so much!

are the units there about the same age? is there any difference between the condos and the villas?

Speaking of age of units I know that ORange Lake and Westgate Villas tend to put exchangers and renters in the older unites. Owners get first priority over the newer ones.

We stayed at Silver Lake a couple years ago and really liked it there..we are staying at Summer Bay at Easter and checked it out last time we were in the area. The resort is really nice, with the lake and pools but we didnt see inside units.,

thanks! this is what I am looking for!

I hate making these kinds of decisions, LOL....I'm always afraid I'm going to make a big mistake!

I'm choosing between a 2BR condo at Summer Bay, a 3 BR in the new section of Silver Lake, or a 2 BR at the Cypress Pointe Grandvillas...the price is the same, no matter where we stay.

we are a family of 5....2 parents and 3 kids...

any other comments? :)

hear that the silver lake silver points ...... which is the newer section if not mistaken have some nice amenities....like plasma TV and why not take a 3 bedroom over a 2 for the same price

and they are NEW

good luck with your decision

we are staying there in september on a ready set go auction too....

and summer bay in november in the houses ( 3 bedrooms with pool and spa on patio and garage ) on an exchange through RCI

we own at Orange Lake

Cannot tell you about the other places, but I can tell you that we absolutely love Silver Lakes. Stayed there twice...both times a 2-bedroom. Our last stay, we watched the new ones being built and they looked great.
The pool is excellent.....the cabana/snack bar by it was also very popular (great tropical drinks...both alcoholic and non.) They also have a deal where for 20 dollars, you get as many movie rentals as you want.
But maybe the best part of it is the drive. Back by the new section, a new gate was also being built during our stay last fall and it wasn't quite open before we left. But if you go out that gate and make a left, you are on Disney property (right by Animal Kingdom Lodge) in literally under a minute! Even going out the front main gate gets you on Diz property (by a different route) in 5-to-10 minutes.
Have fun whatever you choose!

the reviews I read about Silver Lake and Cypress Pointe are almost all fantastic...so I don't know why I have even factored in Summer Bay, except that pool area looks great, as do the lake activities. I'm having trouble finding pictures from Silver Lake and Summer Bay, I wonder why that is

right now we are leading toawrds Silver Lake and the 3BR. having the extra space will be great. I am concerned about all that tile and mirrors, though!

one more quick question (I am still trying to decide, LOL)...I am only interested in Silver Lake if I can get the new section, with the 3BR. My exchange will be in the Silver Points section, which is the newer one, right? I have fear of getting there and being told that exchanges are put in the older buildings. Looking at the RCI site, there are 2 separate listings for SL and SL-SP, so I am thinking if I book the 3 BR at SIlver Points, that's what I am going to get.....

yes the silver lake resort silver points units are in the newer section

and since it will say right on your exchange

Silver Lake Resort - Silver Points

if they try to put you in the other section, a quick call to RCI should solve that

have heard the decor is not all tile and mirrors in these newer units but hard to tell from the pictures

on our sheet ( which is a guest certificate ) our unit is already assigned XXXXAB am guessing this is like a lock out unit comprising both A and B parts

I am almost positive that's where we are going to stay...a new 3 BR unit for $249 for the week is too hard to pass up!

here's what it says on our hold:

Resort name: Silver Lake Resort-Silver Points
Location: Kissimmee FL USA Travel dates: 10/01/2004-10/08/2004
Price: $249.00 Maximum occupancy: 10
Traveler: Add Traveler

I think we are in good shape!

just found the information .....

do not know where it was posted but it seems very thorough

Thanks for all your comments. You've made me feel much better about my choices. I booked the Silver Lakes Silver Points resort. A plasma TV and a good rec centre should keep the kids happy. And if they're happy, I'm happy.

----------------------------------------------------------

Be sure to stick to your guns at check-in if they try to give you something other than one of the two new Points buildings. They appear to frequently intermingle the units. They will, however, acquiesce if you hold your ground.

The new units are extremely nice inside (although we weren't real wild about the hotel-feel building corridors). The units have granite kitchen counters, lovely wood cabinetry, the aforementioned plasma television, DVD players, great space, and very nice furnishings.

The 3BR lockoff was HUGE.

Try to get a lake view since the alternative is a parking lot view. There are units on both sides of the interior corridors, so the same building can have very different views.

There's only one pool, but it's nice sized and pleasant enough. '

There's a poolside bar and grill. The rec center isn't phenomenal but it is better than Summer Bay's. Summer Bay converted one of its house units into an activities center, so space is a little limited. Silver Lake has a nice, spacious rec center with pool table, ping pong, large screen TV, a few arcade games, air hockey, a computer room, a fitness center, and a nearby movie theater. It's not fancy, but it's roomy and enjoyable.

We enjoyed our stays at both resorts and would go back to both. Cindy

does this mean that they don't share a pool with Silver Lake?

I better check this out a little further....

I just called the resort, all is well, LOL :)

Silver Lakes sounds good. I was also looking into vistant resorts. Where can you get a good deal for silver lakes, we do not own anything so we have nothing to trade.

we don't own a timeshare. we rent weeks through www.afvclub.com it is a site for military and DoD employees. there is a similar site for all government employees. I believe a lot of people use www.skyauction.com, but I don't know a thing about that site. www.hotelkingdom.com is another popular choice on the DIS. good luck!

luvdisney

the govt site is

http://www.getravelop.com/html/ge_index2.asp

there they are a flat 249$ for the week if you can find them and qualify

with skyauction you are most likely to find this particular resort......sliver lake resort - silver points ......under the ready set go auctions ( but the cost will be 210$ plus what ever the bidding is )

you can check availability by going to

http://www1.findweeks.com/?cobrand=90946

and following the prompts ( you want florida west/central Fort Myers/Orlando )

you can even hold a unit you might want before bidding so you are not "out" if you win the auction

right now they are showing a three bedroom at silver lake resort - silver points available for the week of nov 12 - 19

all these programs seem to be pulling from the same inventory, thus go with what is best ......249$ flat is good if you can get it......skyauction will usually be higher unless your bid was 39$ ( they usually go in the 50$ range though and sometimes higher )

right now ready set go is open until june 05 for booking so if you did win an auction you do not have to use it until then, unless you have put a unit on HOLD .....then you would get the week you have on HOLD, otherwise you could keep checking the "find weeks " url until you saw something you wanted..

any other questions just post ......
