Any eye doctors here?

I woke up today, showered, ate and was going to brush my teeth when I felt like something was in the corner of my left eye. I looked in the mirror and my eye was red, felt teary without tears and had what I can only describe as looking like a blister on the white part of my eye. I called my eye doctor, who wasn't in, but they took all my information and were going to talk another doctor. They called back and set up an appointment for me on Tuesday with my doctor. It has since gone down some and doesn't feel as bad as this morning, but I was wondering if anyone had any idea what this could be. I'm hoping it's nothing bad since they figured it could wait 3 days. I also wear contacts, but didnot wear them yesterday. Thanks for any help.

I'm not an eye doctor and I cannot diagnose your condition. I doubt that one reading these boards would diagnose you based on your online description anyway (professionals have to cover their you-know-what's).

As a contact lens wearer, I can say that it sounds a lot like a form of conjunctivitis ( but not pink eye!). I used to wear hard lenses and I developed Giant Papillary Conjuctivitis (GPC) when I was in my 20's. My eye was red and it felt like someone had thrown sand in it. The whites didn't have any bumps but the underside of my upper eyelid did. Treatment consisted of removing my lenses and keeping them out for an extended period. For me, that meant several months...yeah, I had it bad. You can read more about the condition here:GPC .

Since your doctor's office didn't direct you to another eyecare professional or an ER, I would assume that they are not concerned about it being more serious. If it gets worse, call them again. In the meantime, leave the contacts out (it can't hurt) and avoid anything that causes your eyes any discomfort.

If your optometrist wants to send you to an Opthalmologist, make sure that your insurance company doesn't require a referral from your primary care doctor. Optometrists are good doctors. Just like any other medical professions out there, there are good ones and bad ones.

Im also a contact lense wearer and unfortuantely Ive havd my share of infections and the like. I have had something similar to what you describe(the blister type thing). I cant remember the exact diagnosis for that one, but it was either an ulcer or just an infection(Ive had both). Of course, thats not saying that is definitely what yours is, but it does sound similar to what I had. The treatment was no contacts, drops & ointment, and warm compresses. I forget for how long, but I had to be cleared by the doctor(read...another appointment ) before I could stop the meds and go back to contacts.

Thanks so much for all of your replies. I was instructed not to wear my contacts until I see my doctor and I didn't put on any makeup today either. The blister (?) has gone down and it feels much better, but not 100%.

Keep us updated on your condition. I know that anything involving your eyes can be cause for concern. I hope it turns out to be something minor.
