Hello, my search for Zaby’s Motor Lodge on here didn't turn up any hits, so sorry if there's a thread hiding some where.

Trying to find a reasonably priced hotel near Disneyland, as cheap as possible yet decent and not gross. We're a little tired of our usual place and would like to try some place new. I have a list of hotels I jotted down last time I was in the area, recently looked up Zaby's Motor Lodge which seems to be a hotel - name makes it sound like it's an RV camp. Zaby's prices are low and the reviews seem to be 50/50.

Just wondering if anyone reading has Zaby's experience? Feel free to make other hotel suggestions too - we are a party of 14 so any savings would be great, we are not picky!

I don't know anything about Zaby's (never heard of it) but we've stayed at the Super 8 on Katella a couple of times when we had a large group. I think it was about $60/night It's nothing fabulous but it's decent. They have free parking and free breakfast. The breakfast is basic (donuts, muffins, milk, cereal, and I think juice). I brought my own cereal and just used their milk, bowls and spoons. The motel is right next to the GardenWalk and we thought it was within walking distance but I know some people might think it's too far. I think it took us about 15-20 minutes to walk so it's not bad.

Since the names Zaby's does not bring up any hits, I would look farther.

Zaby's is on the south east corner of Katella and Harbor across from the Gas station and Portofino Inn. It is an Old motel. Don't know when it was built. Looked abandoned for a long time. Quite a few years ago there was a fire in one of the rooms and you could see the smoke damage on the door and facade. It was still like that a year later!!!! It looks like it has been fixed up a bit and has shown up on some of the booking engines. I know of no one who ever stayed there.

Yeah, most of the reviews I've read mention that the hotel is older and still has that old look and feel, as of 2009 they were still using good old fashion traditional metal keys instead of key cards, and the TVs did not have remotes. Most people are saying it's ok, not the greatest but decent for the price and Disneyland distance.

We currently stay off-site about 10 minutes driving, but for a similar price we're thinking we can find something a little closer to the Disney hub.

I'll put it this way: I wouldn't recommend that someone I've had a personal grudge against for the past decade stay at Zaby's, let alone a fellow Dis'er! :scared1: :rotfl:

A few years ago (looooooong befor I discovered Tripadvisor or Disboards) some friends & I booked a room there, figuring, "WTH, we just need a place to crash for the night...".

Well.

As a previous poster said, from the outside, the place looks abandoned. And the inside, oh, the inside...

...it was SO NASTY. There was grafitti on the wall near the bed. The carpet was FILTHY. The bathroom was MOLDY. Seriously, I would not even let my DOG stay there!

Needless to say, we took one look at the room, said "no thanks!", and got a room at the Jolly Roger nearby. :sad2:

If you need a cheap ("older" but CLEAN and NOT SCARY or decrepit!) place to stay, you should check out the Anaheim Plaza Hotel. It's way closer & about 100 times nicer. I've stayed there lots of times & can vouch that it is a decent place to stay! Here's a link to their website: http://www.anaheimplazahotel.com . You can get the best rates by making reservations online rather than over the phone. :thumbsup2

Over at tripadvisor.com it doesn't get a very good rating. :sad2:
Rated 99th out of 108,that's gotta say something.

Oh, wow...makes me wonder exactly which hotels are WORSE than Zaby's! :lmao:

Gonna go check Tripadvisor right now!...

Edited to add:

The hotels that were even worse had reviews that included such phrases as:

"BEWARE: NO HOT WATER. DON'T STAY."

"Never again"

"Disgusting!"

and the crowning glory,

"Smelled like urine"

I also see that someone who stayed at Zaby's posted some pictures...of the moldy bathroom, additional in-room graffiti, and the disco-tastic furnishings!

And, I know that Tripadvisor reviews have to be taken with the proverbial grain of salt, but one of the reviews for Zaby's is headlined with:

"Child rapist come here".

(The reviewer, "solomermaid", is not me...I'm "thetravelingsquid" on Tripadvisor)

Horrifying!
