I am normally an EA user of National ,but their rates are ridiculous lately.I just found a good deal on Avis(better than national anyway)and was wondering if anyone had any experiences with them, good or bad.

We used them in July, and had the best Orlando car rental experience ever! The line had about 8-10 people in it, and 10 minutes after getting into line, we had the keys and were on our way. We had a luxury car, and got a loaded 2002 Cadillac Seville. I was impressed that they gave us the remote keyless entry, too (we've always rented from National and Budget in the past, and never got one, even on the luxury cars/premium SUV's).

So, Avis gets my vote as "Best at MCO". Their prices tend to be higher than Budget and Dollar, but next time we rent a car at MCO I'll be booking Avis. :)

We also rented from Avis the end of August 2002 at MCO, luxury car with a great experience. We used a discount code with no problems. We plan to rent at Avis again in May for our next trip to WDW. I already made our ressies!

The last visit made my third rental with Avis. We ended up with a Buick Regal, full leather, cd and cassette, power windows and door locks and a remote entry. GREAT CAR!!! Wonderful service also. It is true, they do try harder. ;)

Thanks for the replies everyone.:)
Do they have long lines at the counter? Any programs like Emerald Aisle?

Hello RoutemanDan- We rented from Avis last year using the questionable USA rate code, with no problems I might add. They had no line at all. If you haven't used them before, you can join their program called "My Avis" and receive an online coupon for 5.00 off per day up to 25.00 off for 5 days. We did it last year and you can use this coupon along with other discounts.

All this information is very interesting. I just tried several of the codes listed for Avis at Mousesavers, and one of this is actually about $90 less than Dollar, and $120 less than National.($283 for 8 days, full size July 4th holiday) We paid $162 last year. If I also join "My Avis" then I could also get up to $25 off, bringing the $283 down to $258.

mark & sandra: Can the My Avis coupon also be combined with say an Entertainment coupon, or is it just one coupon plus one discount code?

While this is still much more than we paid last trip, this is definately a step in the right direction. It's also good to know that many of you have been happy with the service there as well.:):D:)

cindala- If the "my Avis" online coupon is still running, and I can't see what it wouldn't be, you should be able to combine with any other code. Last year they said that I could combine it with any other discounts that I used. Why don't you call customer service first and ask if they still have the online coupon and if you can combine it. I wouldn't waste my time with the regular phone reps, they don't seem to know many answers. Just a quick note, your on-line coupon is applied when you return the car, not at the counter. My pick-up ticket at the counter was 25.00 higher then I thought it would be, and the rep. told me it would be adjusted at the time of drop off, it was, so don't worry about it if see your coupon was not applied at pick-up.

The MCO Avis can be gotten through Priceline too...of course, you don't know who you will end up with, but we selected an airport agency and got them. We are using them in late Oct. so I will post a full report. I'm really glad that I've seen so much positive info. about them so far. We usually use Happy Limo, but we are flying down for a conference on WDW property and staying at an off-property hotel so the rental car makes the most sense this time.

They have a program called Avis Preferred which is similar to EA or Hertz #1. There's an annual fee but that may be waived if you belong to a participating professional association, e.g., Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA).

Preferred members skip the desk and go straight to the kiosk in the garage.

I have used priceline 3x's and 2 of the 3xs we have lucked out with Avis. Great rates and great cars.

How do you specifiy airport as a preference. I must have missed that one.

You can also go directly to the kiosk at Avis if you're a very frequent renter as my husband is. I prefer Avis at MCO since it's right in the garage. My husband prefers Hertz because he gets a free upgrade with them as a Hertz Gold member or whatever it's called. At any rate, Avis and Hertz are by far our favorite rental agencies at MCO as well as anywhere else. Good service, good cars.

We've been there during "off-season" and have yet to see more than 2 people in the regular line. We joined their preferred program and it's a very quick walk to the kiosk in the parking garage. BUT make sure you have you printed confirmation with you. Both times I changed my on-line reservation because the rates went down and both times they tried to overcharge me (the price of the original reg). The problems were quickly rectified right at the kiosk though.

I had reserved a Buick Lesabre (premium) with National for $242 using an AARP code (I am in the over 50 crowd). This was cheaper than any rate I could find with no code. I have usually found Avis to be higher in price but after the reports in this post I decided to try the AARP code in Avis and got the same car for $175! Needless to say I switched. Most of the codes I have seen always give prety much the same discounts. It might be worth trying Avis. Good Luck,

What kind of minivans does Avis have?

They feature GM vehicles. You might want to try Avis' website to see what they offer.

just wanted to check on this. i looked up some info on Avis' website about their Preferred program.
and it didn't mention anything about any annual fee.

can anyone verify what the annual fee actually is? and is it a one-time enrollment fee, or is it truly an annual fee?
