Any experience selling cd's or dvd's online?

We have hoards of cd's and dvd's. Now with all of our music/movies on ipods/ipads we have no use for the actual disks. There are several places online if you do a search for "sell cd's online". Most I'm finding will take cds, dvds and game system games as well. Most everything I put in only are giving .50-$1 but we have hundreds.... so why not. But I have looked up reviews on several of them only to read bad reviews. People waiting on their money or the companies telling them 1st their item is worth $1 then once they get it saying they we not worth anything. They don't send back bad stuff, they claim to just recycle it.

So anyone have a good company they have used? I would like to get rid of these, dh said the large can in front of our garage would be fine with him, but I hate to just dump them.

I would sell any such as Disney that have good resale value on eBay or Craigslist. The rest just donate to your library and get the tax write off.

You could also donate any children's DVDs to www.kidflicks.org, they donate them to children's hospitals all over the United States . Then you could use it as a tax write off. There are also organizations that take donations of DVDs and CDs to give to soldiers overseas.

I would check to see if there are any local used CD shops in your area.

If you have a Hastings in your area they buy CDs and DVDs for cash or if you want store credit you get more.

Second spin is pretty good, also try half.com to sell yourself and game stop takes games for credit toward new ones.

I used to have good luck selling used DVDs on Amazon but lately, no matter what I try to list - even Downton Abbey - it tells me I can't. No real explanation given except that possibly, the film company has forbidden it.

FYE, if the condition of the disc and case is in mint condition. Unlike other resellers, like Gamestop, you can't trade it in beat up stuff. I've traded in a handful of CD's that were worth a few bucks each, and a bunch that were worth a quarter. It all depends on the stock currently in the store and the demand for the CD.

Disney DVD's hold their retail value pretty good on ebay and sell well in a bundle of 5 or more. Expect about $10 a disc for the classics and princesses, a little less for some of the more obscure titles like Pete's Dragon or Oliver and Company. I try to do three princess movies and three less popular titles in one listing. Ones that are not out on blu ray and in the vault tend to go a little higher.

CD's overall just don't have much resale value, so be happy if you can get more than $2 a disc.

Do you have a half priced books nearby? they buy CD's and DVDs as well as books. I cleaned out my old CD collection last year to help save for a WDW trip and you get your money right away in cash.

Ohh yeah, Best Buy also does dvd trade in if you buy a blu ray movie worth $10 or more, you get a $5 credit. It doesn't matter what movie it is.

I've used secondspin and abundatrade in the past and I've been very happy with both of them.

Read their FAQs for selling. Know the condition of your discs. Know what disc rot is and make sure none of your discs have it! Know what they do with cracked cases and decide if you want to buy simple cases to send in or just take the hit with what they'll charge.

Package them carefully.

The weirdest things can bring in money. Our two biggest money CDs were the soundtrack for 2 Men and a Little Lady and for the original Conan the Barbarian. Both brought us quite a bit of money. More than expected, because I'd gotten the price for them then got busy with other projects and forgot to send them. Went back a month or two later to reprice them (your estimate is only good for a certain amount of time) and both had gone up.

Guess the person/people that wanted them REALLY wanted them!

Over the past few years, I have upgraded many of my movies to Blu-ray, which left me with a handful of duplicate titles on DVD.

Certain "franchise" movies (Star Wars, James Bond, etc.) tend to do well on eBay, as well as anything Disney-related.

When it comes to Disney, if you have an old copy, for example, "Aladdin" on DVD, and you hear of an upcoming release date for the Blu-ray/DVD combo (it hasn't happened, yet), put it on eBay about 3-4 weeks before the Blu-ray release date, and you'll get all kinds of bids -- the bids are coming from those who have zero interest in a Blu-ray/DVD combo release (such as day care centers, and grandmas), and missed-out on the initial DVD release, several years ago.

Also, classic TV Christmas specials tend to sell very well in the run-up to the holidays.

A friendly word of advice - if anyone is dumping their DVD/CD collection because the movies/songs were converted to a digital format for the computer/MP3 player, you may want to hang on to them, as the original DVD/CD is the "source document", should the legitimacy of your burned copy ever come into question.
